We slept really well last night, nice and warm. We got up fairly early, had some breakfast and packed everything away. We refilled the water tank again while we could, the snow was very crisp under foot this morning. The guy from the camper next to us was up digging the snow out from under his camper as he was leaving today. Once we were ready to go we hoped for the best and were watched out by the nice guy. We did get a little stuck but James just reversed and went for it again and we were off. Once we were out of the campsite the roads were fully clear again, we only had to drive five minutes down the road to the springs. We parked the van up and got our swimming things together. It was really strange to be walking in in full winter gear and then see people walking/running in their bikinis/shorts to the pools, we got changed and joined in. The first pool we went into was about 36c, lovely. The walk between the pools was not good, it was freezing! We spent about four hours there in total and went in pools of different temperatures from 36c-42c. We went in mineral pools, aqua therapy pools with spa bubbles and sulphur pools which were the hottest least treated although you did have to put up with the smell with these. It was so nice and relaxing looking round at the snow covered mountains and rooftops from really warm outdoor pools, it was very surreal. We got changed and went back to the van where we got some lunch before setting off in the direction of Christchurch. We headed first for a place just outside Christchurch for a dump station for the toilet, by the time we'd got here it was already dark so we decided to find a place to pull up for the night here. The great thing about New Zealand is that you can freedom camp pretty much anywhere. So long as there are no signs saying you can't and that you are not obstructing anything or on private property you're pretty much fine. We parked up next to some grass and a river and made some tea. We read for a while and I've got to work on deleting some photographs as I'm seriously running out of space.
