We were up and at em again this morning with an early start out of the campsite. We wanted to go to Puzzling World just outside of Wanaka. We parked up and waited for it to open by having coffee and some breakfast. It opened at 8.30am and we went straight in. This place tests you and your thinking on how things should be. For example it had a lot of magic eye kind of pictures and it had a whole room that was on a tilt. This made things happen like a ball rolling up hill (or so it seems). There were five rooms with all sorts inside and then a huge maze outside to find your way around. We spent a good couple of hours here exploring everything, it was great. Afterwards we got on our way for our drive of today which is to head to the west coast. We're heading to a place called Haast, unsure as to where we're going to stay for the night we know this place is the last place to get any diesel before getting all the way to Fox Glacier. The drive to Haast was going to take some time but it did help that it was thorougly stunnning. We made a few stop offs on the way to take photographs and have a couple of walks. One thing we've been enjoying during the drives is crossing the hundreds of creeks and rivers and reading their names. For example we saw Dizzy Creek, Dismay Creek along with Roy Creek and Joe Creek. There were some incredible waterfalls because it had been raining and still was on and off so we also got some beautiful rainbows throughout the afternoon. We went to a place called Blue pools which were supposed to be utterly clear, enough to see fish swimming in there. But as it had rained so hard and some rivers had flooded, the water was murky. We did go to two sets of waterfalls though, Fantail falls and Thunder falls. Thunder falls was the favourite, a small hole for the water to come out of meant they were 'thundering' out of the mountain. The drive was awesome and eventually we reached Haast, really not much to it just one supermarket which was shut (of course with it being Saturday afternoon?!) and a petrol station. We got as much as we needed to get us to the glaciers tomorrow. We then decided seen as there wasn't much in Haast we'd go to a campsite on the way. It wasn't too far and it was next to Lake Paringa and was another Department of Conservation site like last night which was unmanned. We had made sure we had change this time from the petrol station. When we arrived we were the only ones here but it was still quite early. We made sure we paid this time, filled in the envelope and receipt and posted the money. We got a great spot seen as we were the only ones, right next to the lake, not long after we'd settled down it started to rain. Then the thunder and lightning followed, we had a perfect view. I started to get ready to make tea, put some water on to boil for pasta and the gas ran out, good job I wasn't half way through cooking. Sandwiches for tea and an early night.
