After a great night's sleep but yet another cold morning we were up nice and early. The sunrise over the beach from where we were parked was lovely. Our first job was to find a camping shop for some more toilet chemical, we ended up buying exactly the same stuff we used to buy for Red Rooster, this isn't the first time it's brought back memories! Once sorted we headed for the Otago Penninsula, first we went to Sandfly Bay in the hope of seeing sealions, seals and possibly penguins. There was a short walk down to a viewing platform and then the track went further down to the beach, we started walking it, laughing at the sign which said the path wasn't maintained to the same standard after this point. We didn't have to go too far before realising the path wasn't maintained at all, the path was just sand flattened by footprints. The walk down was extremely steep. The beach at the bottom was lovely but alas no wildlife. We don't seem to be doing that well recently. We had a walk around the beach before attempting the climb back to the top. We headed next for another chasm but soon turned around, a lot of the roads here are not made for campervans. We eventually got to the Royal Albatross Centre which was at the top of a hill and had a beach close by. We didn't bother going into the centre, it's not the right time of year to see the Albatross plus it was quite expensive. We walked to the beach where we saw a couple of seals on the rocks, at last something! Strangly we also saw the same guy from the Milford Sound cruise and yesterday again, he must be following us! We were a little unsure as to what to do now, stay in Dunedin another night or get in a quick stop off to Oamaru where we might be just in time to see penguins. We opted for Oamaru so we got on the road. The drive was ok but it was looking less likely we'd make it in time to see blue penguins. The sun then started setting, I think it had to be one of the most incredible sunsets either of us have ever seen. New Zealand seems to throw something brand new at us every day and it's becoming difficult to find new words to describe it. The sat nav sent us the wrong way down a road so more time was wasted to see the penguins but we did make it, although we hadn't realised you can't actually see the penguins without paying and going through the penguin centre they have here. It wasn't going to be worth it paying seen as it was dark now, really disappointing! After a short walk around we got back in the van and only went two minutes down the road to park in the harbour car park for the night.
