No one was in a hurry to get up this morning, perhaps the longer you sleep the longer it will last. We gave Gab a break for the morning while the kids and I headed out to breakfast around the corner then up to the Arc to finally climb it.
Luckily I didn't go too hard at breakfast, I think there are close to 3000 steps to climb the Arc, though Max assures me it 258, it felt much closer to 3000. Especially with neither of them waiting for me - between the kids bolting all the way up non-stop, every possible rest spot already occupied I was shattered at the top. Happily they have bench seats at the top for those of us that need to stave off a cardio-infarction, not that either of my future primary carers gave a second thought to my health. Regardless no need for coffee today, my heart was well and truly started by the time we were out on the terrace. What a view! Magnificent!
While I know we've only seen a small part of Paris, this view put that small amount in perspective with close to 70% of the horizon untouched by us there is plenty still to discover in the future. Somehow this gift shop had far too much stock for there not to be a goods lift, there was no need for us to climb this high manually after all!
Back down on terra-firma we went hunting for stamps and a postbox to mail off Emerson's postcards. Fid couldn't have been happier than when he found packs of Pokemon X&Y cards in French - FTW!
With little else planned we strolled down the Champs-Elysee and decided to head along Ave Montaigne and out to Chez Francis where we spent the afternoon with Rob & Evie. We got a text from Gab about lunch so we just had some drinks by the river. Much to Emerson's pleasure - we found out how they keep these lawns so insanely green - manure was stinking to high heavens spoiling the otherwise blissful vista.
Back to the room for a final shower and change, we checked out and headed almost all the way out the Peripherique to a riverboat/cafe/jazzbar the hotel recommended. It was closed for the day but next door was the closest we've come to bohemia in a student bar type setting where we had a few drinks, the kids made some friends and Max even jumped in the DJ booth. Since we were over this way we decided to head back to St Germain and see if we could finally get a table at Le Comptoir - Success!
It has taken so long to get a table here, I'd forgotten the dished Bourdain recommended, but Gab chose the Steak Tartare, Max an assiette of Sausage, and Emerson and I the Croque Monsieur. All delicious, though the sausage was more salami than frankfurt ruining all Max's plans.
We're out at CDG at the moment just about to hop on our fight out of here - the end of the trip is night odd to say with nearly 30 hours of travel in front of us. Max is quietly freaking out next to me as he counts all the little babies waiting to board our flight - wish us luck!
We've had a tremendous experience these last few weeks together, I'm going to miss waking up each day and heading out to discover something new as a family - hopefully we get one more crack at that next year when we head up here for Rob and Evie's wedding, but until then...
Au revoir!
