Neither of us can remember booking the organised tour of Tallinn, but given how little either of us knows about the place we figure it was someone's great idea. Past travellers has set out sights for Warnemunde very low, meaning we got a pleasant surprise. Do you know anything of Estonia? I guarantee I knew less than that at the time.
A few weeks earlier I'd mentioned Tallinn to Mr West at the wedding, his raving about rivaled the way he speaks of the Greek Isles so our hopes had started to climb. Off early in the morning we were about a bus and heading to the Tallinn music bowl - an open air performance area - impressive enough, but imagine if the entertainment centre was the first thing anyone showed you on visiting Sydney? Back in the bus we headed to the shore where the 1984 olympic rowing regatta took place. By shore I really mean shore, there is no infrastructure to marvel at, just you know, water. We'd been on a boat for long enough to struggle to be impressed by, water.
Things were looking up, next we were heading back to the city for a cafe, perhaps a chance to see some unique Tallinn morning tea service? Hemmingway beards, croissants, columbian espresso and spotify cafe tracks let you know you were in earth cafe 2015 :( Only two things stood this cafe apart from everywhere else you've been - the accents and the Konig Ludwig weiss in the fridge display case - I bought 4 bottles to take back to the ship.
With just over an hour left in Tallinn our anxiety started to climb. We followed the tour around the front of parliament house and into a tacky souvenir shop before we decided to ditch the tour and make our own way around town. A few turns and we were in the middle of the old town, this is the place Mr West had been raving about. Gab and Emerson went off exploring for our precious remaining minutes while Max followed me into a sunny cafe to sample Estonian beer - nice!
The Magic has made a smaller version of the Fantasy's boutique, but this time with a Frozen theme to compliment the Frozen party. Once we were back on ship Fid was off to the Edge (his gaming recluse) while Gab & I took Boo to get transformed into Anna. She grinned from ear to ear through the whole thing. The rest of us got into the parties Frozen theme by rugging up, it's cold up on deck.
After enjoying a few too many cocktails the other night Gab struck an unflattering pose in a group photo. As a sign of solidarity, the broader group all got together after dinner to strike the same pose - but Gab ran away. The party had fantastic special effects and was so windy and cold it got everyone dancing in the hope of warming up, it couldn't have a better title - Freezing the Night Away!
