Our flight got us into Paris by 12pm, but between luggage and traffic it was another 2 hours before we made it to the hotel. You know you're in the city of love when you open your hotel room door to a floor and bed strewn with red rose petals and "honeymoon" music playing. I'd love to take the credit for trying to spoil Gab, but actually it was the guy before me that did all the work. Emerson said "they've had a honeymoon" which was evident from the state of the room, petal stains in the carpet, towels and robes everywhere. We were in a new room, sans "honeymoon" apparatus a few minutes later.
We dumped our bags and headed up for a light lunch. Street corner bistro, afternoon sun, some 1664 and a Charcuterie for lunch said we were clearly, finally here!
We did nothing interesting all afternoon, even brought that siesta idea with us from Barcelona for a little while until it was time to get ready for dinner. All dolled up we hailed a Uber black car, with door service for 3euro less than the cab home would cost later in the evening, sold!
We arrived at the the Tower and were immediately embroiled in the thick of summer queues for the tower, thousands of people milling around. All of which made strolling up the empty JV entrance all the more rewarding :)
We took the private lift to the top, and being so keen the floor was almost empty, it quickly filled up over the next hour, but it was pretty special to have it mostly to ourselves for a bit. Tonight we had the tasting plate, 6 courses Lobster, Foie Gras, Sea Bass, Chicken and two desserts, spoilt!
The service was fantastic, as my plate arrived on the table the Foie Gras, which was laying on it's edge, fell over, the plate was hurriedly replaced with a fresh serve and Foie Gras appropriately upright. Emerson dropped her napkin, the waiter removed it from the floor and returned with a fresh one presented to her in silver service. The kids were all perfectly behaved, Max and William doing their best to impress all the ladies with their chivalry, and all of us taking hundreds of photos all meal long. At 10pm just as the red hue from the setting sun was fading it was dark enough to see the twinkle lights go off all over the tower, amazing to see it from the inside.
After dinner we had private access to the viewing platform where we spent close to 40 minutes taking every photo we could think of. Again the queues both to go up to the summit and to go back down where massive with the whole platform packed with people trying to go either way. We hopped back into the restaurant and back down in the private lift - spoilt freaking rotten!
The view was too good on the ground to leave in a hurry. By the time we'd strolled around and got the kids icecream we were only 10 minutes from the midnight twinkles, we hung around trying to capture as much as we could of such a wonderful evening. Lucky? Spoilt? No words capture the scale of such a wonderful experience, what a night!
