The first grey day in a while, and our last full day in Paris. We hopped the metro out to Versilles. Somehow Gab has this system totally sorted, I get confused with every look at a map.
We turned the corner to stroll up to the Palace, even on such a foggy grey day, the glittering gold adorning the Sun King's home lit up the scene. We spent an hour or so taking in the apartments. Each room was more impressive than the last, until we reached the hall of mirrors, my favourite. On one side huge windows look out to the astounding gardens, on the other the mirrors reflect the gardens back to you. Like everyone else I tried to capture it all but didn't do it much justice. By the time I reached the Napolionic section the kids came running up to us to tell us about the people that had stormed the palace to take away the selfish king and queen. I'd explained my confused version of the rebellion to the kids on the train, but the audio guide to the palace had made it all click.
From the inside we'd seen glimpses of the Gardens, but once outside the view was astounding. We took a golf cart around the gardens and out to the Trianon. Max was telling us all about the four seasons fountains as we made our way around. The Apollo fountain however had us all silent.
Back to the city and we had a quick shop at Galleries La Fayette, and a stroll up to St Trinity then on to Moulin Rouge. Back in Mong Kok Max read the sign out the front of a sex shop, Frankfurt was full of posters promoting "erotique" but he never noticed them. Here again in the middle of it all in Paris he didn't notice any of the lured signage - the blow hole from the metro below had them both fully capitvated.
We hopped a tour bus for an hour or so before hopping off at the Opera and heading to a café for a beer on the street. Each of the kids took turns to take a picture of us at the café, Emerson got down on one knee to get the perfect shot! A quick bite near our hotel and we were heading back in time to catch the 9pm twinkle of the tower on the way. The last one on this trip, tomorrow we head to London.
