It was a grey, slightly chilly and ultimately wet day in Paris today. We're set up in the 8th and haven't spent much time here before. We didn't leave the apartment until after 11 today, up too late the night before, and the one before that, and...
First stop was the Champs-Elysee and the Disney store specifically. Our first stop of the day is the Champs-Elysee for the Disney Store and hopeful Frozen purchases, but no luck. By now its lunch and Max has spied a Pizza bar across the road so off we go. After lunch we decide to stroll up before heading to Galleries Lafayette. A few doors up is the Nike store where I nab the last pair of Lebron kicks. Then we pass the Champs-Elysee Laduree with a 40 person queue out the front for the restaurant, clearly we're coming here for breakfast at some point in the next few days. Up to Galleries Lafayette and we shop around for the next hour or two before hoofing it home to get ready for our dinner at Maxim's!
The interior, the staff, the food and the entertainment are all set up to let you immerse yourself in a different era of crooners and martinis. The room is dark, red and gold. The wait staff don't have the crispness of there colleagues at La Jules Verne, but their in three piece and tails! The menu was very french with lots of Foie Gras, Caviar and truffle, but we managed.
We orderd the kids a steak to share. The waiter didn't have the english to express just how the steak was, We thought he was joking but the side of a cow that turned up for the kids a little while later didn't do his gesticulations justice!
Mid-evening the entertainment started with singing and a few couples even got up to dance.
The Kids kept disappearing to the bathroom, which isn't all that uncommon but they kept coming back giggling. A few minutes latter a young texan girl comes up and asks Max for his email address - the fiddyman picked up! I don't know if it was debonaire water quaffing style, the jacket or even the pocket square - but the stories about the disney cruise probably helped.
Dessert was a monster of a chocolate souffle for mum and the Crepe Suzette for Dad & I, delicious, but not enough room.
As we left we noticed the Palais Bourbon was all lit up in Red White and Blue. me asking if we could take one quick photo from the end of the street was met with loads of complaints about how unjust it is to be a kids, but we did it regardless - tomorrow is disneyland, I think we'll have some tired and emotional little guys tomorrow afternoon.
