Shattered from the day before we all slept in today. Without a solid plan we headed up to Champs-Elysees after breakfast to find a Starbucks so we could pilfer some internets!
With our plan set we got on to a L'open tour on the top deck to wiz around the city and get our bearings. Again - everything is grand and opulent, wonderful. We got to see most of everything (we do a similar tour in two weeks time as part of our Euro tour.) Beautiful day for sightseeing.
After the organized tour we jumped off and headed for some of our less popular Must See/Do list: Maxim's, Chanel, Louis Vuiton, Apple, L'Atelier, Le Comptoir etc. We were walking all over the city for the afternoon to get around. A bite in a little Patisierre, another good reason for me not to live in this city.
Dinner across the round from an almost empty Le Comptoir had me almost regretting us all not going there instead, perhaps for lunch tomorrow if we make it back in time.
Frankfurt is beautiful to the modern eye - well planned, crisp modernist architecture. Paris is astounding for its opulence and grandeur. The amount of space dedicated to showing off is draw dropping, the millions of man hours that has gone into filling it all up is far harder to grasp. In every little corner of everything, someone has spent a life carving a monument to something. I guess they've been at it a long time. We crossed a bridge that was there (in another form I'm guessing) in 300bc, we walked past a restaurant that proudly boasts it was establish in 1686. Walk along a street, over the fence, between the hedges you catch a glimpse of Rodin's Thinker. Every pour oozes a mix of history and opulence.
Beautiful isn't a grand enough word to do it justice.
