Slightly thrown by waking up to rain this morning putting pay to our day by the pool and so we decided to get the bus into Barcelona.
Without much planning we managed to get off at the right stop and head down Las Ramblas to the Mercado de la Boqueria where we enjoyed a very varied lunch put together from the many market stalls before heading on to Place Reial with M&D now in full flow with the photography.
At the end of the Ramblas we got the lift up to the top of the Columbus monument to enjoy the view across Barcelona before heading over to Port Vell and the harbour area where we were astounded by the decadence of Roman Abramovich's $1.5bn yacht which was moored up opposite the Museum of Catalonian history where we stopped for a mid-afternoon drink in the rooftop bar for another beautiful view over Barcelona.
We then did a whistle-stop tour of the gothic area (where we saw a crowd of medieval warriors about to go to war) and the incredible cathedral.
We had some discussion as to whether we should try and squeeze in the Sagrida Familia before heading back....M&D were less than keen once they were told that this was an unfinished cathedral which had been being built for over 100 years and wouldn't be finished for another 10 but we all agreed to go have a look.....it was further than we had thought.... but it was 'actually quite cool' when we got there for a quick look before we decided to run back across Barcelona to catch the bus back to the campsite - just getting there in time, only to be told that it was full and we had to wait for the next one!
It was dark by the time we got back and we were tired so we just had to treat ourselves to dinner at the campsite reastaurant again - luckily there are 5 menus to chose from!
