We're blaming Uncle John for this detour... I hadn't really thought about Ikea whilst planning this trip until he asked if we were going to visit the first Ikea... and then we realised that you actually could. Well lucky we did as it was a really interesting museum telling us a lot about social history in Sweden as well as the story of Ingvar Kamprad and how he started Ikea. We obviously had to have meatballs for lunch before letting the children loose in the C...

Advertised as 'the Nordic region's largest Science centre' I wasn't initially sure whether this would be worth a visit as we have done a lot of science museums but a little more research and it was obviously different. We went on a rainforest safari and walked throug an aquarium to see sharks; we walked through the Swedish countryside viewing the plants and animals that you find there as well as viewing snakes from all over the world and then we went to 'Health'...

We had a long day yesterday so planned a slow start today and spent the morning on the campsite with the children enthusiastically catching up with various projects until we had to eventually drag them away for a cycle into Gothenburg.... somehow christened Basingstoke-by-the-sea. This may have been a little unfair just because it had shops.... it certainly seemed a little nicer than Basingstoke but we were tired and very unenthusiastic with our exploring today. ...

Headed early to the Kolmården Wildlife Park so we could be there when it opened at 10am. Our first stop of the day was the safari cable car and this was a great way to see the animals. During the journey, we saw bears, lions, moose, giraffes and European Bison. Interestingly these were once extinct in the wild but were saved by zoos and wildlife parks across the globe. These have now been reintroduced back into the wild with the numbers up to a few thousand...

So obviously the sun came out this morning for a driving day - this has been happening to us for over a year now... all the way back to June 2016 and the drive to see Great Grandma - but we packed up and set off South again towards Kolmarden for an afternoon on the beach. The beach was a little more windy that we hoped for though so it was more an afternoon on the campsite next to the beach, sheltering from the wind, before a lovely evening on the pier watching ...
