Retired & Traveling
We are staying in a bedroom that has the coolest electronic blackout shades so it's pitch black when we wake up--which means we sleep a little longer than we normally would. And for me, that's 6:30 am. LOL
After coffee and yogurt, we headed out to meet our guide for a Segway tour of Paris. I had on 4 layers so I was okay for a while, but it was only about 35 and the wind was blowing. After a brief instruction lesson on operating the Segway, we took off. We saw a lot of the major sights and it was so much fun zipping along through the streets of Paris, even if we were freezing! I was just happy it wasn't raining.
After we warmed up back at the tour office, we walked a short distance to the metro and made our way over to the Latin Quarter where a restaurant I've eaten at before is located. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovations. :((
We started reading menu signs outside several nearby places and finally found one, L'Arthure Bistro that served French Onion Soup. We didn't know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised at how good (and hot) it was since we were so cold.
The Pantheon was just a short walk up a very steep hill and after we paid to enter, we found out that ITS NOT HEATED!!! It felt colder inside than outside because the stone doesn't warm up. We were pretty miserably cold by this point and didn't really spend a lot of time looking around, although we did hit most of the highlights. It's a beautiful building with a lot of paintings and sculptures, not to mention the building itself is a work of art.
We had to check out the gift store on the way out and Kathi found some really cute music boxes that she bought as souvenirs. We may have to go back and get some more. :))
It was still fairly early so we decided to catch the subway and head over to Place de la Concorde to ride the giant Ferris wheel. You can really get a nice central view of the city from there.
After our ride, we both decided we had enjoyed ourselves enough for one day and back to the metro we went. A quick run through the grocery store for some wine, Brie, a fresh baguette, and we were set to be in for the evening. I've got to get Kathi a French pastry tomorrow, she's feeling like she's missing out! :))
