Retired & Traveling
Since it doesn't get light here until about 8:30, I have been sleeping late and then rushing to get out the door. It was lightly raining when we left for the subway this morning, so we had to grab an umbrella--first time we've had rain since we've been here. By the time we met our tour guide at the tour office, it had stopped and never did start up again. We've been very lucky with the weather so far. Jeanne told us it had rained every day for two weeks before we arrived.
We had booked a skip-the-line tour for the Eiffel Tower and it was worth every penny as the lines to buy tickets and get in were VERY long (and it was cold, damp and windy). We got to go right to the front and board the next elevator that came along. Very cool. And again, worth every cent! :))
The views were spectacular as the sun was breaking thru the clouds and we learned quite a bit of history from our guide (Jess--an Australian girl). We went up to the top and had a hot chocolate, then decided we needed some lunch and found a cafe not far from the tower.
We journeyed back to the apt to rest and regroup before heading out for a concert at Sainte Chapelle. The music was provided by 5 violinists, a pianist and someone playing the cello, all from Vivaldi and Pachelbel--so beautiful! It was freezing cold in the church, though, so as soon as it was over, we took off and found a cafe for some warm libations. Well, me anyway, Marcy is still fighting off a bad cold.
We made it back to the apt. and are actually looking forward to having a "free" day tomorrow...although we have lots of things to check off the list! Jeanne is off tomorrow, so we are hoping she will accompany us on some of our outings, even though she has said she's got to study. We'll see!!
