Retired & Traveling
Rich and Mike took off walking this rainy morning, so Pam and I went to the Concerto Dining room for a pancake breakfast. We met back up with the guys and headed out in the rain to catch the Tallinn Hop On Hop Off bus. It was pretty cold but we were prepared for it.
The tour bus took us all around the city, both the old section and new part but you couldn't really see a whole lot due to all the trees. Just about the time we were wanting to get off the bus, it began to POUR! Needless to say, we stayed on and rode around again to one of the more popular places to see. OMG, the crowds were amazing (and I don't mean that in a good way) and rightfully so since there are 5 mammoth ships in port today. :((
The streets are all cobblestone and so pretty but difficult to walk on. We were standing by a wall with a gorgeous view of the city and harbor and this beautiful sea bird flew right up to me! It almost startled me into dropping my phone, he looked a lot bigger with his wings wide open!! (See photo)
We found a Greek restaurant that wasn't busy at all, so decided to take a break from sightseeing and have lunch. They had a gyro, Rich had an assortment of feta and veggies and I had a souvlaki plate--all were yummy.
After lunch, we continued exploring Old Town Tallinn. The churches are very ornate and the architecture is just so beautiful. I've taken a bunch of pictures and can't wait to see them on a computer screen instead of my tiny phone screen.
Pam and Mike climbed to the top of Fat Margaret, which is one of the original gates in a wall built to defend the city. Rich and I opted to wait in the gift shop. :)) This was our final stop of the self guided tour.
Some of my pictures I'm posting from today were taken from the Hop on Hop off bus, and like I said earlier, it was raining pretty hard, so anything that looks like raindrops is raindrops. :))
We walked back to the ship and saw that there weren't five cruise ships here, there were 7!!! No wonder the crowds were so bad! The good news is that the sun came out and stayed out while we were eating lunch.
We saw a great show after dinner that was a tribute to the Beatles, by the Beatle Maniacs. Had us up on our feet dancing and singing along, was a lot of fun.
Super busy day tomorrow--two tours in Russia, 8:30 am to 11:00 pm!!

Kateva Lafield Would have loved to see Estonia. Used to be part of Russia, but is indepemdent I think Greek food sounds great. I love Gyros and greek salads. Hope the weather stays nice.
Kathi Hybart Besides a little rainy weather, sounds as if y'all are having a good time. Love hearing about the food and architecture. Rich eating a feta and veggies plate made me do a double take. He really is a new man! Veggies and Rich in the same sentence :))
Kateva Lafield Texas lost big time last nite and Aggies won Big time. Always next year. Even Texas Tech won.
