Ok, I finally finished putting up the pictures and writing on them. A little bit more about the trip, we have to take a 4 hour bus ride to Madrid before we can go anywhere outside of Spain, so that makes travel a little difficult. Our flight left at 6 am, so we had to check in at 4 am so we just stayed in the airport over night. We were pretty tired the next day but still had Belgian waffles and walked around the city a little. We went to a chocolate shop where they showed us how they make chocolates and the shells for creme filled chocolates which was pretty cool, and it included a chocolate tasting! That night we stayed in a Hostel, a first for all of us, and it was great.
On Saturday we did most of our sight seeing and museum-ing. We really are Spainsh because we had to stop for tapas at the end of what should have been our siesta. We ended up meeting a nice lady from Texas who was travelling though Europe as an inspector for Dept of Defense schools. After resting up a bit in the bar she helped us check our bags at the Marriot so we didn't have to worry about them and we headed off to the Grand Place to see it all lit up. Our bus back to the airport in Brussels left at 4:30 am so it was another sleepless night.
We flew into Madrid around noon and met up with Sean's cousin Ana who showed us around the Puerta Del Sol and Plaza Mayor and also around the city, then it was back to the bus stop at 4:30 and Caceres at 9. My host mom packed me snacks that were supposed to last... but they were all eaten by the time we reached Madrid on Friday.
Speaking of which, my family here is awesome! Couldn't be nicer, my sister's a trouble maker--she talks back to her mom, doesn't do her chores, typical 13 year old girl, but we always have fun ( and I'm still better at tennis than she is )
We made plans to go to Barcelona over the weekend of the 28th, this weekend is just going to be low key seeing the sights here in Caceres. We went up the bell tower of Santa Maria's today because it was sunny and clear and you could see for miles! I hope the weather stays this great.
Classes are still going good, its kind of confusing still because I don't really have the schedule memorized yet. University classes have started up too, so hopefully I'll get started in a physics/science class soon. Today we sat in on part of a Toxicology/ecology class before we went speed dating! The students have to do a project in English so their professors set up 'speed dating' with the exchange students. It was a little cheesy but we met some cool people to hang out with, and I didn't have anything else going on at the time.
Hasta Luego!
