This past weekend, Michelle, Melissa, Erin, Nicole and I went up to Pais Vasco. A long time ago I found train tickets for 12 euro, so there was no reason not to. For some reason on this trip we had a hard time getting places on time, but it all worked out, no pasa nada. We had to take a bus to Salamanca to catch the train, so on Thursday we left after class and stayed the night there.
We're going to Salamanca this week, so it'll be like de ja vous walking through the same city but this time we'll do more than just walk through. We found our hostel no problem- thanks to the bright pink signs along the way. It was a nice municipal hostel, we had a room to ourselves and breakfast was good in the morning. We ate our bocadillos and went to find a grocery store to buy snacks for the train for the next day around 8:30, which turned out to be a wild goose chase. We'd go to one and they'd be closed, so we'd get directions to another, but it would be closing by the time we got there, so they'd tell us how to get to another…
On the way we walked past a movie theatre, and decided to go see Slumdog Millionaire, which was a great movie, and whats even better is that I understood it no problem!
We ended up finding a 24hr supermarket but it was pretty sparse, so we 'planned' to go in the morning. By the time we… I take so long to do my makeup… and hair… by the time we got to the supermarket we were cutting it close, then as we were walking out we watched the last bus for 20 minutes pull away from the stop. That's not good when you have half an hour, and the station is 10 or 15 minutes away.
Thanks to Melissa's quick thinking we found the taxi number on the map we got from the bus station (not the city tourism desk though, they didn't have any…) and got to the station at the same time as the bus we would have taken, just in time for our 6 hr train ride. The train was uneventful, the newness has even worn off a little, but I still enjoy wandering around and hopping from car to car.
