Made it to Madrid at 11 am on Thursday, just enough time to see the Prado and Reina Sofia Museums and get on the bus for Sevilla. In the airport I met two girls doing the same thing, they were from Vermont, studying in Sevilla, and had just flown in from Athens with me. We went to the Prado together, saw the famous works by El Greco, Goya, Velasquez, Dali, all the guys we learned about in art class-- see, I WAS paying attention! It was really cool to get to see the actual paintings we were studying.
In the Queen Sofia muesum the highlight is the Guernica, a painting by Picasso describing the destruction of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Picasso was a very very very disturbed man.
I didn't do much the rest of the afternoon, didn't have too much time, so I went to El Buen Retiro, Madrid's Central Park, and walked around a little bit, then headed to the bus station.
The ride was 6 hours... so I got a nice nap in before staying up all night in Sevilla. I met another girl doing the same thing, so we stuck together and found our way through Sevilla to the processions.
