So firstly I'd like to say sorry to all those who though I'd died, I haven't!!! And I have another blog for you. :D
On the 24th and 25th May we went to La Ceiba for the annual Ceiba Carnaval. Eight of the PT volunteers, and Melissa (who we now live with) descended on El Estadio Hostel and spent the weekend doing carnivaly things - dancing, singing, looking at floats, staying up past midnight, and generally having a great weekend.
Last week I finally finished school, our last day was Friday 31st May and we spent the day finishing off exams and celebrating with balloons, cake and soda. For the first time since coming to Honduras I actually got to buy a cake in a box…it's like a Honduran rite of passage, no one can ever truly be Honduran until they have bought a cake and taken it home on a bus/bike. The children were very excited when they saw the cake and balloons and after big slices of cake and too many cups of soda they were filled with sugar and I was ready to send them home with their parents!!
As you may also know the end of the school year means PRESENTS, and this year (being the teacher) I was on the receiving end of the presents. Yay!! I got given lots of lovely Honduran trinkets, a box, a bag, a bookmark, a key ring and even a pair of Honduran flip flops. But my all-time favourite present was a t-shirt with an iron on photograph of me and all my children (queue awwwwing). The children also gave me lots of hugs and cute little "I Love You Miss Alix" (sometimes spelt Alicxs) drawings, which I have stuck in my scrapbook for safe keeping.
We are now off to Utila for a week of relaxation and diving, before coming back to Tela to give out reports and certificates and then heading off on our travels round Central America. Excited is an understatement.
I promise to be better at writing my blog and will keep you updated with all the cool stuff I'm planning on doing in the next 2 months. I will be on that plan home in 8 weeks and 4 days and I still can't believe how long I have been away.
Lots of Love and Hugs
