Last week was my first week with my new Grade 1 class, and I LOVE it. :D I teach them for Maths, Science, Spelling, Reading and Grammar which can sometimes be very challenging as their English is limited mainly to "Miss can I go to the bathroom", "Miss can I drink water" and "Miss can I play", but when they do understand something and get it all right it is very very rewarding. I have a grand total of 9 children in my class, 3 girls and 6 boys, which is great and makes it much easier to work one on one with those who struggle and keep control of the classroom, something I was definitely struggling with before. Another major bonus is that they all love to give me food. School is from 7am till midday and so we have a break at 9, which they call lunch!?!, however this means that most of them are still full from breakfast and so I get laden with biscuits and half sandwiches and cartons of juice which I often share with Anna as it is too much for one person alone!! :D
I also found out on Tuesday, my second day as teacher, that it is customary for parents to bring in cake on their child's birthday and for us to take a lesson off to eat cake, drink soda, and sing happy birthday. I was probably too excited when I realised the cake that had been bought did in fact have the very same AMAZING marshmallow icing that I experienced for the first time just 2 weeks ago. It was at this point that I wished I had more children in my class. More children= more birthdays = more amazing marshmallow icing cake!! <3
This weekend turned out to be really good as well!! Anna and I woke up to beautiful weather, not what we were expecting as we had been told a storm with 48 hour potential was on its way, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to visit the beach which is now just 3 minutes and 31 seconds away (see video). We spent a lovely couple of hours topping up our tans, listening to the waves, and swimming in the sea with no one else around. It was like our own private Caribbean beach!!
We had also been invited to a teachers lunch at the school which started at 3pm. After a relaxing morning we got ready and decided to leave at 2:30, although it is only a 10 minute cycle to school we wanted to leave ourselves plenty of time so we could cycle extra slowly in the afternoon heat, it was turning out to be a really hot day. The teachers lunch was really fun, it felt more like a family BBQ really as the whole of Graciela's family was there, we ate BBQed pollo (chicken), res (beef), and chorizo (sausage), along with salad and homemade baleadas. It was muy muy rico (very very delicious) and Anna and I both ate way too much. I then spent the rest of the afternoon playing basketball with Anthony and mini Hector, who is 2 and his idea of basketball is picking up the ball and running to daddy for a hug!!! At around half 5 the sky started looking very ominous and we decided it was probably time for us to head home, we were both really in the mood for something sweet after Vanessa joking about there being cake (not a funny joke!!!) so we decided to stop at the mini super on the way home and saw a sign advertising CHOCOBANANOS for just 5 lempiras, which is about 16p. While we were inside getting our chocobananos karma decided to tell us that eating crazy amounts of food and THEN buying chocobananos was just too greedy and it began to pour buckets from the sky. After eating our chocobananos in the comfort of the shop (they were truly heavenly and it could end badly for my waist line with them being so cheap) we headed out into the rain and cycled at lightning speed all the way home.
On Sunday Vanessa had invited us round to make pizza and so at half 3, after frantically hanging out our washing because we had forgotten the time, we headed off to try and catch a bus. Just as we were arriving at the 'bus stop' a bus came round the corner and actually stopped!!!! Wequickly realised however that we had boarded the slowest bus in the history of the world and could have probably walked faster than the bus was moving, just our luck. We eventually made it to Vanessa's and had a good afternoon making and eating pizza, and then eating cake, and then drinking Fanta while watching a movie! Anna and I wrote down the recipe as soon as we got home and are planning on making our own pizza sometime soon, I'll keep you updated.
Also that 48 hour storm never made an appearance which disappointed me a little, I was quite looking forward to it!! We also just book another long weekend away for Caitlin's birthday from the 5th to the 6th October, we are going to Lago de Yajoa (Lake of Yajoa) which is meant to be one of the most beautiful places in Honduras. We are staying at the D and D Brewery (they have a website if you want to have a look) which is Honduras' only micro-brewery and we are especially looking forward to our complimentary blueberry pancakes that they serve for breakfast, yes I'm talking about food again!!
Hope all is well in England, Lots of Love

Grandpa Dear Alex (I refuse to call you Alix), I am so glad that you find teaching so enjoyable. With small classes it is I think easyer and your boys and girls learn more. Your description of Honduran food is fascinating may it be more so than the Hungarian one. If you eat so much you may put some weight on beyond the desirable ammount. Your journeys to that far away town and on the busses remind me of my childhood traveling (that was in Hungary) complications. Maybe wheen your Spanish gets beter you will find easier to travel. By the way, your photos are excellent. Much love
Granny So glad you are enjoying your five year olds. With only nine of them they'll be progressing in leaps and bounds. It is good to see food featuring more in this blog. I wonder if you can get the recipe for this amazing marshmallow icing. The home made pizza and the rice and veg dish you made look delicious. Lots of love.
Grandpa Alex, I tried to find the video you mentioned in your 24 Sept. blog but could not find it. The only one I could find was some Bandera or something of marching boys/men. Could you please let us know how to find your sea side visit video. Sending love as always.
Fergus Me parece que lo pasas muy bien allí! Me alegro! Ciao for now!
