Twenty hours since I left home, having barely slept a wink, and we have finally arrived in Honduras, where it's getting late but still crazy hot and humid, and what a day it's been!!
The trip from Heathrow to Miami was, thankfully, fairly uneventful with everyone catching up on all the latest movie releases that they'd missed. We were given TWO meals and MANY refreshments in between (that bit is specially for Mum), Mali and I especially enjoyed the chicken and mash meal for lunch :P
We finally landed in Miami airport, the view from the air is just crazy…Miami looks like a massive car park for houses with everything in perfect rows, a bit like a massive Milton Keynes really. Our visit to the "restroom" turned out to be perfectly timed as we found ourselves just a few paces behind Jeremy Clarkson (!!!!!!!!!!) in the MASSIVE queue for passport control. We later found out, thanks to the love sercurity man with a gun on his belt, that taking photos in passport controll is acctually against Federal Law and consequently have no photos to prove that we acctually saw Jeremy Clarkson!! We then had a panicked hour or so as we lost 2 people in the airport and had the arduous task of going through security and the million passport checks that are required in American airports. Eventually reunited, and 45 minutes behind schedule, we left Miami airport vowing never to return (for at least another year).
We were greeted at the airport by Vanessa (our host) and her family and set off for our new home of Tela. In the car we had our first taste of a Honduran cookie, made from corn, but had to decline a second (still not sure about them). We finally arrived at the volunteer house, where we were to spend our first night, and after being awake for almost 24 hours it was finally time for bed!
Lots of Love
Also the photo has nothing to do with Honduras, but it wouldn't let me post the blog without one and I haven't uploaded any yet :)
