And what a crazy week it has been.
I survived my first three days of school with "monster class", Anna and I have renamed Grade 3, they are absolutely crazy and apparently the worst year in the school, just my luck!! On my second day, however, I discovered that worksheets are a gift sent from heaven!! A good word-search can keep them quiet for at least 20 minutes, I spent the whole of Thursday night making worksheets in an attempt to have a peaceful Friday (it worked a bit!!). Anna's Grade 4's, on the other hand, are practically angels (especially in comparison to mine), she has double the number of kids but somehow they don't seem inclined to run around and scream, and punch each other, and put each other in headlocks, and squeeze hand sanitizer on the desk, and not do their work quite like mine! J
Luckily we start the syllabus from Monday and so things should get better from there as they will have textbooks and practice books and I'm trying to plan my lessons down to the last word.
BUT….I may not have the Grade 3's for much longer!! I think after Vanessa saw me on my first day with the kids, shattered and slightly crazed, she re-evaluated the timetable. There is another teacher coming from England on September 13th, she has just finished university and so will older and more qualified than me, and will probably take over my Grade 3's. AND THAT MEANS I MIGHT GET THE GRADE 1's!! They are the littlest ones (only 5) and come to school in the morning and the afternoon, and they need someone to do the morning classes. :D
We also had a bit of an oven disaster this week, remember that results cake we were planning…well turns out the oven is broken!! The stove and oven here has to be lit with a match, so I lit the oven and left it too warm up. A few minutes later I noticed that the flame had gone out (you may be able to predict what's coming), without really thinking I went to relight the oven, and instead lit up and oven full of gas!! Oooppps!! I don't think I've ever moved so fast in my life, and managed to get away with many singed arm hairs and a very minor wrist burn. So yeah, no cake for us!! J
Anna and I decided to go to the beach today…it's the weekend, we've had a challenging first few days, and the Caribbean sun had finally come out from behind the clouds!! The beach is so beautiful, we'd been cycling around a bit so we were both longing to get into the sea and we weren't disappointed. The sea is so warm, I was just standing in it jumping the waves for almost half an hour, I didn't want to leave. We were enjoying the beach soo much however that we may have, sort of, over done it. We have decided that we're probably not going to leave the house for the rest of the weekend as we're both feeling a little pink!!

Granny. Oh Alix, you certainly are learning the hard way. Your Great Granny lost her eyebrows once in a similar accident! Lots of love.
