The relaxation and exciting travelling time has finally begun. As soon as we discovered we were allowed to leave Anna, Melissa and I ran home, packed our bags and began to think about all the little things we're going to miss now that we were leaving. We have been building up to this first week of travelling for so long that it's hard to believe we have actually come to the end of our year as teachers and are soon going to be coming home!
We decided to spend our first week and a bit on Utila, where we went for Christmas, it was really odd going back after 6 months and realising how long I have really been away from home. The first part of the week was spent soaking up the sun on the Ecomarine dock, swimming and snorkelling in the Caribbean Sea and having a bit of a party (now that we are no longer responsible teachers we can do things like that). It was super, mega relaxing and I now have a tan to compete with any (pale skinned) Hondurans!!
The second part of the week was spent trying out Free Diving (or Apnea Total), which turned out to be one of the most amazing things I have ever done. Warning: If you're a worrier (Granny and Granpa :P) skip the rest of this paragraph…Free Diving basically means diving with nothing but a mask and wetsuit!! At the beginning of the course we had a special lesson on breathing, turns out I've been breathing for 19 whole years and still couldn't do it properly, and then we went out in to the water. On my first day diving I managed to go down to 14 meters holding my breath, and on the second day 20.4 meters!! During my underwater adventures I saw a turtle, a sting ray, and a whole group of squid, along with lots of fairly awesome fish. I was even deeper than some scuba divers (as you can only go to 18 meters on your scuba open water course) and saw the top of the Haliburten shipwreck off Utila. I challenge anyone who dares to a "who can hold your breath under water the longest" competition.
Friday came (again) and it was definitely time for me to say goodbye to Utila, I dragged myself out of bed at 5:30 ready for the ferry and the long journey to meet Mali and get to El Salvador before the end of the day.
Did we make it to El Salvador in time?! Come back soon to read all about the adventures of Malix in El Salvador. :D

Mum At the moment I'm holding my breath until I know that you have reached El Salvdor safely. Next blog please - I'm starting to go a bit blue!!
Grandpa Dear Alex, scuba diving I could put up with but 20 meters deep on one breath is too much for my restricted mind. Though I promised not to worry I now worry. But I love to hear how much you enjoy yourself, and am a bit jealous. I would love to be young enough to go wondering like you.. Keep us posted and much love.
Granny Have a great holiday and keep safe. Lots of love, Granny.
