So it turns out that my forehead doesn't enjoy sunlight, it preferred to be hidden away behind a full fringe of hair. I hadn't really thought about the fact that my forehead hasn't seen sunlight for about 2 years, so when Anna and I went down to the beach last Saturday it didn't occur to me to apply extra sun cream to it, which now means that my forehead is pealing….yes just my forehead. NOT a good look!!
My first (sort of) full week at school has been a mixed bag, the kids tend to be much better behaved in the mornings and as the afternoon wears on they get tired and bored and therefore much more uncontrollable, which isn't much fun!! I say sort of full week because we only actually had school from Monday to Thursday. After looking through the school calendar Anna and I have discovered that we are actually more likely to have 4 day weeks than a full week of school, the Hondurans enjoy their public holidays…any excuse really!! And if we don't have a long weekend for a public holiday we have a day off timetabled lessons to celebrate children's day or teachers day or mother's day or father's day or for a whole school spelling bee!!! It's going to be a fun year, but makes fitting the curriculum into the time a tad difficult.
After almost a week with no mosquito bites we thought that the mosquitoes had finally come to accept us as one of the locals, oh how wrong we could be…on Friday night they came back with a vengeance, although Anna must taste better than me because they only seem to go for my feet, whereas Anna had bites all up the back of both legs, she looks diseased! :/ On the Brightside, we have both become amazingly good at clapping mosquitoes out of the air, it's a real skill, by the end of the year I'll be picking them out of the air with chopsticks like Mr Myagi (or however you spell it, from the Karate Kid)!!
Because we get paid in arrears Anna and I have been living the life of (very) poor students this month, trying to eeek out the money we bought with us!! However, on Friday night we decided to go down to the beach to read out books and watch the sun set, standard night in paradise! It was getting latish and we were both hungry so we decided to go to the "Colonial Playa" for liquados (the most delicious juice drinks on the planet) and something cheap to eat, but after looking at the menu we just couldn't restrain ourselves any longer and both ordered a hamburger WITH CHIPS and a pinapple liquado. It was heaven and worth every penny!! Just to put things into perspective…it cost us L$130 (lempiras, the local currency) each, which is about £4, yes we're poor!! But we are also looking forward to pay-day at the beginning of September, we have already decided we are going to have a monthly tradition of "pay-day pizza-day", Vanessa has told us about a good pizza place on the edge of town that we have to cycle past every time we go in to town for anything and we can't wait to test it out! J
We are also very excited because we are in the process of planning our Christmas holiday!! I know it may seem early, but we need to book a hotel for 16 people. We have decided that we are going to spend 10 days from the 23rd Dec to the 2nd Jan, Christmas AND New Year on the bay island of Utila, and as if spending Christmas on a Caribbean island wasn't enough we are also planning on doing our open water diving certificate while we're there!! The bay islands off Honduras have the second largest reef in the world (I think), and it is also the cheapest place in the word to become a certified diver…what are the chances!! It's going to be odd not having Christmas at home with the family, but I think this might come a close second! :P By the way you should definitely Google some pictures of Utila, just so you know where I'll be.
Just so you know, while I was typing this a teeny tiny ant was crawling around on me keyboard and refusing to go away!! There are teeny tiny ants absolutely everywhere and we are finding it impossible to completely get rid of them, they are clever little things and must have really sticky feet because if you try to blow them away they barely even notice your existence!! Annoying!!

Mum You should try the chopsticks on the teeny tiny ants! It's a shame Mosquitos don't just bite ants really. The world would be a much happier place.
Granddad Great joy to read your Blog. Keep on sending them. I now worry a bit less about you. I bet you enjoyed your swim in the warm sea. If you are worried about ants, smear some garlic on the things you don’t want them to be. Ants don’t like garlic. I know no remedy for mosquitoes. Have you got my email?
Granny I have looked up Utila. It will be a great Christmas, not like Christmas at all really, but hopefully the best ever. Have commented on your photos, below somewhere. Sea looks great.Lots of Love.
