It hasn't been long but I have already discovered my favourite new hobbies:
1. Taking a shower - the showers here are basically buckets…you use a small bucket to pour water over yourself from a big bucket. But they are also heavenly, the water is freezing cold which is a relief from the humidity, and they make you feel clean (the only time I really feel clean is when im actually in the shower!). I would spend all day in the shower if there wasn't so much exploring to be done J
2. Riding my new blue bicycle - the volunteers from last year (Cat and Sarah) left us there bicycles, no one walks in Tela they have either a bike or a car. Vanessa brought our bikes to school today and we both got very excited, Anna got the pink one and I got the blue one, they even have baskets on the front so we can take all our books to school and take the shopping home!! We found that people stare at us less on the bikes., well…they stare at Anna less, mine makes a constant clicking sound when I pedal so people turn to see what the noise is. Im planning on fixing that first thing tomorrow J
3. Covering myself in bug repellent - on our first day and night neither me or Anna got a single mosquito bite, the sneaky mosquitoes obviously had a plan to lull us into safe sense of security before pouncing on day two and three. Both of us have legs that looks like a war scene, but we have now started using our repellent. Personally I blame Mum, I never ever get bitten when she is around (she must taste too good) and so I wasn't prepared for this onslaught of mosquito bites :P
Today was also very exciting as we found out which grades we will be teaching! I will be teaching Phonics, Reading, Maths and Science to the Grade 3's and Anna will be teaching the same subjects to the Grade 4's. Because it is a bilingual school they teach both Maths and Science in English!! We were given our "teacher textbooks", which was very exciting as im not used to being given the books with all the answers already filled in, living the life of a teacher now.
We are also beginning to try new foods, slowly at first to get our stomachs used to it (I ate too much bean and pork soup on the first day and made myself feel quite sick). Our favourite so far is all the delicious local bread, which is also ridiculously cheap. We have had coconut bread; it doesn't really taste of coconut but has a really lovely texture that's different to normal bread. We've also had a sort of cinnamony bread which smells a lot like a hot cross bun, and we have spied pineapple bread which is going to be our next purchase.
Don't worry there will be a bread update in the next instalment J
We are starting to settle in already, we've only been here a few days but it feels more like a few weeks. We are both starting to understand a lot more Spanish, although it's going to take a while before I can speak a decent amount.
Lots of love

Mum Excellent. I can't wait for the bread update. Make sure you get the recipes!
Granny. HI ALIX, This is great, really interesting. I am looking forward to the next episode. How many children will you be teaching? Did you manage to repair the click on your bicycle?
uncle p What happen to the pig in your previous blog or does that explain the pork soup!?
