The last day before school broke up for Semana Santa (Easter holidays) we had the school's annual science fair, and this year's theme was "The Body a Perfect Creation". Grade 1 had teeth.
I quickly discovered that assisting 6/7 year olds with a science fair really meant doing the science fair and letting the children take all the credit. With only 4 days until the science fair I quickly got to work finding lots of interesting information about teeth for my children to copy out in their cute messy hand writing.
Along with the much needed help of some Mums, I managed to get two big display boards looking pretty and professional and covered with lots of information and pictures all about teeth just in time for the fair!!
On Thursday morning (7am) the children all turned up very excited armed with toothbrushes and toothpaste and practicing the lines I had given them to learn. It was all very cute. I armed all the children with their names badges and arranged them around their tables ready for the judges. After the children had presented to the judges, many of them reciting their lines (in English) from memory, I took them round the rest of the school to look at the other science fair projects.
At 11:30 the whole school gathered upstairs for the award ceremony, Grade 1 was up against Grade 2 AND Grade 3 so I wasn't feeling hopeful but crossed my fingers anyways. When we didn't win 3rd or 2nd place I thought all hope was lost, but (I think you can probably see where this is going) then one of my groups were called…FIRST PLACE!! We had won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The children were all very confused and I had to pull them all out of the audience to receive their medals which were big gold stars with a number 1 in the middle. As you can imagine it was all very exciting and I think it made all the parents love me just that little bit more. :P
Have a look under the photos tab to see all the photos from the day.
