Thursday 22nd - Arrived in Esperance after a quiet night in a great nature reserve. After a few days of 'free camping' we stocked up on groceries and then went for a drive around town. We went up to West Beach which is a popular surfing beach but not much surf today. The waves crash onto a rock ledge and the surfers have to pull up quick so they don't get washed onto the rocks. Also went to Twilight Beach which has been previously voted as WA's most beautiful beach - looks pretty good with white sand and really blue water. All the beaches in the area are frequented by our white toothed friends of the sea!
Friday 23rd - drizzling with rain this morning so we had a quiet catch up with some school work. When it wasn't raining, Gracie was out with her new friends from Bellingen. We went out and walked around town this afternoon and walked along Tanker Jetty. There are always a few seals around the jetty and today there was a big one (Sammy) on the sand at the start of the jetty and another one (Sarah) in the water near the fish cleaning table. We were leaving when a fisherman turned up with fish for Sammy who ate them all then promptly slumped back down on the beach.
Saturday 24th - went out to Cape le Grand National Park today. It has been overcast and drizzling a bit the last couple of days but today was a dry day with some sun and clouds. It was very windy out there but beautiful nonetheless. The is a really big rock at Thistle Cove that is called the Whistling Rock that makes a noise similar to a blowhole as the wind rushes past it. The beaches - Lucky Bay and Le Grand Beach have squeaky white sand and really blue water. gracie found a large orange crab (not quite big enough for dinner) and another of the many skinks we have seen on our trip. We also spent some time there with a couple of the families we have met on our trip.
