Friday 26th Oct - Left Carnarvon this morning and headed down to the Shark Bay Region. On the way we stopped at Hamelin Pool and took a short walk through the historic site of the shell quarry. The shells are tightly compacted and used to be cut into blocks for buildings. We also walked along a boardwalk and looked at the Stromatolites in the water. They only live in this area and althogu they really just look like rocks in the water, they are very slow growing and are very old. We booked into the Denham Seaside Tourist Park for a few days.

Saturday 27th Oct - This morning we got up in time to go to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins. There is an interactive area there and a few dolphins came in but none of them were any of the five dolphins they feed. Luckliy one of the feeding dolphins came in after some time and was fed by a few lucky people. We dropped in to see Little Lagoon. This still has a small opening to the ocean and is very blue and salty.

In the afternoon we went to Ocean Park. We saw many different types of marine animals - sharks, squids, moray eels, lion fish and lts of others. We also saw two turtles which had been brought in because they had 'floaters' disease - something that keeps the animals afloat which would eventually kill them as they are unable to dive for food and go under the water. They had treatments and the marine biologists were hoping they would be able to be let back into the ocean soon.

Sunday 28th Oct - We did a 4WD up to Francois Peron National Park. The track is quite sandy and there are air compressors at the beginning of the track to let down and re pump up tyres. We saw a couple of lovely beaches and went to Cape Peron. Looking down you can see many different colours - blues in the water, white in the sand and reds and oranges of the cliffs. Driving around the bend to Skipjack we almost got bogged but Harry (or Steve) managed to get out of the soft sand. At Skipjack lookouts we saw heaps of Manta Rays and a Dugong in the water. We went to a great beach called Herald Bight which had Hermit Crabs in the water where we were swimming and we almost got bogged again!
