We arrived in Zurich after along flight from Melbourne via Singapore. The airconditioning in the plane didn't seem to be working so we sweated our way through the flight and got no sleep. Arrival in Zurich was at 6am.
After passing through immigration and picking up our luggage we caught a shuttle bus to our hotel, Hotel Krone Unterstrass. Our room wasn't ready so we walked into the city centre and had a look around.
We stopped first at the train station and validated our Eurail pass and booked some seats on trains we were to catch around Switzerland. We also bought a 24 hour Zurich Card for the next day from the tourist Information Office at the train station so we could use the public transport as much as we needed.
We walked down Bahnhofstrasse, the main shopping street of Zurich and stopped for a coffee at Starbucks to wake us up. Walked to the end of Bahnhofstrasse to Bürkliplatz. We took some pictures of the Zurichsee.
We walked back up Limmatquai admiring the interesting architecture of the buildings and taking some pictures of the Grossmünster, St.Peter Kirche and the Rathausbrücke.
Had lunch at McDonalds as we were too tired to find anywhere else and needed to find a toilet! We walked back up to the hotel, a long, uphill walk to find that at 12 noon our room was still not ready. We decided to explore the area around our hotel for a while and returned at 1pm to find the room was still not available.
At 2pm we approached the receptionist as asked if our room was ready as check in was 2pm. Our room was still not ready as the other people in the foyer were late to check out and of course had our room. We were given a different room (why didn't we get this room earlier?) and finally checked in at 2.15pm.
We had a nap for an hour or so then got dressed at went to dinner at 6pm. We caught the tram down to the train station and had dinner.
We then caught the tram back to the hotel and made some plans for the next day before going to sleep at 10pm.
