After breakfast we walked to the train station and bought some supplies from the supermarket, picked up our day packs from the hotel and started on a walking tour of the city.

The tour started at Zeedijk and the only wooden fronted house in Amsterdam outside the Begijnhof. Continued down to Nieuwmarkt for some pictures of the Waag, the weigh house built in 1488. Walked down Kloveniersburgwal past the Trippenhuis and the Narrow House to the former headquarters of the Dutch East India Company, the Oostindisch Huis. We then walked back across Rokin to the Begijnhof with its wooden house and English Church.

Walked back along Rokin, stopping for coffee in a shopping centre before arriving at Muntsplein and its Munttoren. We walked further down Vijzelstraat to the Rijksmuseum then along Stadhouderskade to the Heineken Experience house in the old Heineken Brewery. After enjoying our three glasses of Heineken we walked back up Rokin and had a late luch from one of the Frites shops which we took back to the hotel to eat.

After lunch we walked back to the train station to visit the Tourist Information Centre and find out how to get to Kinderdijk the next day. Tourist Information told us to ask at the train information desk. The first person we asked at the train info desk had no idea where Kinderdijk was so we asked a second person who said they had no idea and to ask at Rotterdam.

We decided to check when the next canal cruise departed as we walked back to our hotel and returned for the 5.30pm cruise. We started by going out into the IJ to see the port area of Amsterdam before passing a recreation of a 17th century ship the "Amsterdam". The cruise then took us around the canals of the inner canal belt of the city focussing on the architecture of the buildings and the bridges.

We returned to the hotel after the cruise and dropped off our bags before heading out for dinner, eating at a steakhouse on Damrak. Returned to the hotel for the night.
