We got up at 8am and had breakfast at the hotel then checked with reception about my bag, they said it would be there within the hour.

We went back to our room and got the day pack ready for a walking tour of Reykjavik. My bag arrived about 20 minutes later and we left to walk around the city. First we walked down to Tjörnin, the city lake. The lake was partially frozen but still had a lot of ducks and geese swimming in it. Even some people feeding the birds down the city end of the lake. We next veered off towards Hallgrimskirkja stopping at a convenience store along the way to get some water and food. We walked up to the cathedral and went to the top by elevator and stairs. Wind was really strong at the top and made it twice as cold as on the ground, still there were excellent views over the city and the harbour. Once back on the ground we walked down to the harbour, this was made difficult by some road works but we got there in the end and took in the views of the mountains across the harbour and the smell of the remnants of this mornings fish catch. We walked on down the main street, Austurstræti, where we had lunch, a sandwich from a supermarket type shop and ate it in the shop next to some guy who had had too much to drink the night before or was on some other substances. We walked back towards the hotel via the catholic church which was very busy as it was Easter time and the cemetery. Back at the hotel we had a rest before our trip to the Blue Lagoon this afternoon.

We got picked up for the Blue Lagoon trip at 3.45pm and switched buses at the Reykjavik Excursions depot before continuing out to the Blue Lagoon, about a 45 minute drive. We hired a towel each (700 ISK!!!) then went to the change rooms...european standards for nudity were very quickly noticed, it wasn't for the prudish. We got changed and went out into the lagoon, a volcanic thermal pool that is also the run off from the nearby power station. Water temperature varied between 25 and 40 degrees and was pale blue in colour and opaque due to the silica and algae int he water. The bottom of the lagoon was volcanic sand and rocks. Interesting experience with the cold weather outside (~0 degrees) and the steam from the lagoon hovering over the water. After an hour and a half in the lagoon we showered and got changed then caught the bus back to the hotel. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant again and then back to the room to get ready for tomorrows Golden Circle tour and the Northern Lights tour that night. Bed at 10.30pm.
