Arrived from Budapest at 10.30am after changing trains in Füzesabony. Walked into town which took about 15 minutes and visited the Tourist Information centre for a town map.
Started our walking tour of Eger at Eger Cathedral before walking past the Bishop's Palace and then stopping for lunch. After lunch we walked past the Cistercian Church towards the castle. Stopped at The Minaret and the Minorita Church before going on a tour of Eger Castle.
We paid for a guided tour of the castle and were told it would be in English. They were wrong as we discovered when we entered the first room on the tour and listened to the guide speak in Hungarian patiently waiting for the English version that never came. We asked if the tour was going to be entirely in Hungarian and we were told it was.
Luckily there was a school group that had an English guide leading the tour so we followed them around for the rest of the tour, including a visit to the castle casemates. After the tour ended we took in the views from the castle before beginning the walk back to the train station.
Walked back through Dobo Square to the Train station and caught a regional train to Füzesabony before catching an InterCity train back to Budapest Keleti.
