Got up at 6.45am after our alarm clock failed to go off! Hurriedly dressed, packed and checked out without breakfast. Walked to the Zoogarten station to catch our 8.10am train to Munich. Had a coffee and donut for breakfast while waiting for the train as it was delayed by 15 minutes. Finally on the train and on our way to Munich.

Breakfast at 8.15am then a short walk to the Tourist Information Centre to buy our metro passes for the day. Caught the metro and S-Bahn to Oranienburg which took about 40 minutes. Walked from Orienburg train station to Sachsenhausen which took about 15 minutes to see Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.As you would expect this was a very depressing place and the cold, drizzly weather added to the mood. Breakfast at 9am, grabbed our day packs and headed for the ruins of Kaiser Wilhelm-Gedächnis Kirche which are as they stood after allied bombing in World War II. We then went to the Tourist Information Centre to buy metro passes for the day. Caught the metro to Alexanderplatz to go to the top of the Fernsehturm. Travelled 3.5 hours from Geneva to Basel before changing trains and catching the ICE to Hannover. The trip took 5 hours and we reached speeds of 250 km/h in some parts. Changed trains in Hannover and caught the train to Berlin Zoo Garden station which took 2 hours. Overall we spent 10.5 hours on the trains today. We arrived in Berlin at 6.15pm.
