So on Xmas day there was me, Henry, Mari, Graham (all geordies) Nina (aussie) and Joel (irish) so we had a lovely day we had a pool party. By pool party I mean paddling pool but a massive one that we all fit it. Amazing. It was a boiling hot queensland day so it was lush. We tried to have a BBQ but it blew up in Joels face…literally. Lucky he had no top on as it singed his chest hair and not his skin so lucky escape for him me thinks! So we had a oven BBQ obviously too many brits so we couldn't manage a full BBQ day. We had Kangaroo steak though woo hoo and Joel cooked it to perfect which means the most rare steak ever so Dad I'm not sure you would have liked it but it's the only way to eat roo it is beautiful.
We all got gifts which was nice, I got some unicorn horns to wear, calendar, wine and nail stickers, and we all drank tons! And then a bit more. Then Graham was doing a jigsaw of Edinburgh Castle. Joel fell asleep. It was a true family day. I wore my party dress so I was happy about that obviously.
The next day Henry drove me to the airport as It was Cairns time for me, I spent the day at the lagoon having a picnic. I saw a scary bat tree literally full of killer bats urgh I have started to get quite a fear of bats since I got to queensland I am not happy about it! I met a german lad in my dorm who told me he hated all the other germans in the hostel as they only spoke german to each other and did not want to know the English people or practice their English so he thought they were very rude. I loved him. He was a bit camp and asked me to go salsa dancing with him that night but I declined funnily enough.
The next day I boarded the Ocean Freedom boat - time for the Great Barrier Reef. It was amazing, so pretty and such a lovely day out I really love boat trips! Snorkelling and diving was good but the colours are just not what you see on TV or magazines as they're all dull and not as impressive and it's because they are enhanced for media purposes apparently so that was a bit disappointing it's because the sea distorts the colours. But nevermind all the same it was beautiful. It's a shame the Australian Government are more arsed about money than the natural wonders of the world as they are going to build a mine right on the reef so that's very bad. I got to swim with a turtle so I was over the moon with that. He was a tiny cutie little baby turtle so he was so cute.
That night I watched a amazing sunset on the esplanade in cairns the whole sky went pink and when the tide went out the sand was pink so it was quite spectacular! Then the bats came. Like a million bats, it was like the birds by Alfred Hitchcock but with bats. For over a hour they all flew off somewhere in a line it was horrible! And they smell. It was then time for my overnight bus to Airlie Beach.
Airlie Beach does not appear to have a proper beach but nevermind I love that place it was party central with a villagey feel it was lovely and small. And they have a lagoon which I love as you have to go on the sand! Made friends with a Austrian called Flo in my room he was travelling with his very miserable sister, then 2 more girls checked into our lovely 5 bed dorm Tracey from South Africa and Danielle from Leicester they were fun girls so we all made a pact to go out that night and have a room 201 night out.
We went for free drinks in downunder bar then played giant jenga and then hit a club called Africa, Tracey was loving it she felt right at home! Drank a little champagne and danced our socks off all night it was hilarious night out. We even make up a room 201 dance. Danielle was literally the clone of Our Claire Stewart so I felt like I was out with her, same mannerisms, pouts, crazy dance moves it was lush!
The next day me and Flo go on different Whitsunday boat trips and the girls head south. I bloody loved my whitsundays trip best thing on the east for sure. I rock up to the boat with a box of goon and see this s*** old brown ugly old boat. Oh dear. However proof of not judging on first appearance as it turns out it was the best sailing boat EVER. It's a actual sailing boat and has won every major boat race including the Sydney Hobart one which is massive obviously in oz. it was built in the UK. Its from the 80s but still race sails. It's a maxi sail don't know what that means but its true anyways! Theres only 3 staff! A skipper(captain) and 2 deckies so everyone aboard has to help sail the boat, putting up the sails, taking them down, winding some things to move stuff- hell I don't even know what I was doing but I was doing it it was so much fun. The Skipper let me and Canada (Addie from Canada) steer the boat a lot and we were amazing at it - especially me, co captains for life! We did some fair distances steering the boat so Pro Sailor is now on my CV. Also so is Diving and Surfing for the record! The boat was called Condor and I love It haha I am very pro sailing now. Celebrity boat essentially. And living on a boat for 2 days and nights was literally amazing I enjoyed it so much. Even though some d*** left the water on, on the first day which mean no showers for us as not enough water, it just didn't matter it was a fab experience. Absolutely wow the whole time. We had a good old crew going on too so it a perfect trip for me. A lot of the girls were going solo like me so we had a A Team going on. There was me, Canada (probs my fave Canadian ever) Una (from Ireland basically Carrie Bradshaw she is extremely romantic about everything in life a total irish sweetheart) and then there was Laurel who was a mad sex crazed Yank. Laurel was not really in the A Team but we kind alooked after her as she was most lost soul I have ever met. 31 recently divorced and totally at a loss with life I think she was just nuts to be honest but still a nice enough girl just a bit cuckoo and annoying haha. On a night there was around 15-20 of us drinking and playing games 29 on the boat so a fair number of party animals. The snorkelling wasn't amazing but still on the reef but it was just nice to be in the water although we had to wear stinger suits everything we got in the sea which upset me as it was so hot. Stinger suits are not as hardcore as wetsuits tho so not hard to get in and out of at least. We saw a lot of turtles on the trip which was sweet. And some people saw sharks - not me tho dammit.
We went to Whitehaven beach super early one day to beat the crowds and it was so beautiful. White sand (not actually sand at all its glass with a certain name but its so pretty) you could walk out for ages in the sea waist deep and there was rays everywhere! I also Saw Flo on the beach which was the nicest place ive ever bumped into anyone in my life haha.
On my boat trip was also Abi and Johnny who I met in Margaret River just before I left a couple from the UK so that was cool to see them again. We got back on new years eve from the trip we were all showered and off we all went out to party. The boat crew was pretty much all there so it was cool, we ended up in a bar getting free dominoes pizzas with our drinks so we were happy to be fed! We also met up with Flo with his misery guts sister! Abi's sister beckie also joined us as she was now in airlie beach also so that was nice. Me and Canada got on better with her as she was more party than Abi!
Of course we all ended up all over the place and me and Canada ended up in Magnums a massive club with Jack from Sydney and his mates. We were at the bar at 11.58 awaiting to be served we got our drinks at 11.59 then ran into the middle of the dancefloor to shout happy new year! We made it!! It was a wicked new year we danced and drank and partied hard. Got on the stage with the MC it was a fun fun night out. So happy I ended up being there for new year!
The next day was a day by the lagoon with everyone. Johnny went and got us some BBQ food so we had a new year day BBQ aussie style we had Roo steaks and cheese salad and fresh bread! And Cadburys Fingers! Flashpackers! It was a lovely was to start the new year we had a few drinks then me and Canada went back to Magnums to party again. I bumped into some south Africans I met in Byron bay there which was nice to see them! Such a small place oz haha.
Me and Canada were pestered to join the wet t shirt competition the man decided I was definitely going to win (not sure why) so of course I entered and won $500. NOT! We did watch though it was so funny. More partying and then me and Canada do an emotional goodbye however I am now in melbs and she is here so reunited haha!! She is a little legend.
The next day I have a beer and head off on another overnight bus to Rainbow Beach - goodbye Airlie I love you!
I chill by my new hostels pool then head to the beach I watch skydivers landing on the beach I get extremely jealous! I wanna do one landing on the beach stupid bank balance! I also see horse riding on the beach aww. So its fricking boiling on the beach so I head back to the pool burning my feet badly on the sand and I bump into Tracey and Danielle from the room 201 massive! Small world I told you!
So we are made to watch this government made video about Fraser Island for my trip. Fraser island is the largest Sand Island in the world. So theres Sand, 4WD's and Dingoes there. Danger?!
The video basically says you will def die at fraser island. You will crash the 4WD and write it off, hopefully not in the sea though but quite likely. A dingo will almost 100% attack and eat you and your whole group and if you venture into the sea a shark will definitely attack and kill you. Wow its hard hitting stuff… apparently there are over 65 types of sharks continuously circling Fraser Island. It is a very funny video anyways. So after being told we will basically spend the weekend avoiding near death experiences if we're lucky…
At the briefing I make friends with 3 Mancs. 2 Lesbians- Lisa and Calais and a gay guy Dale.Dale appeared on supersize V Superskinny years ago as the skinny guy we all instantly fall in love with each other and we end up on the same team so we bond by going to the bottleo together and then they show me their pad which is a camper van and then make me tea! Lovely. Dale becomes my instant gay best friend we have the same taste in men so its perfect we spend our days just perving on men with no tops on!
That night we meet 2 other geordies so I am over the moon to have a new northern massive for a few days. That night we all get smashed in the hostel bar accidentally of course.
The trip starts the next day my team is the Mancs, 2 german girls Ela who we rename Umbrella and Andrea and 2 hot Swedish guys Daniel and Filip. Cars pack, after my flip flop emergency (it breaks and lisa has to lend me her brand new ones as I have none she is a size 8…) we head off. Lisa is a boy racer she loves driving on the sand shes basically our designated driver on the island and does way more than anyone. She was totally in her element.
When we arrived in Fraser we did a big trek up some rainforest and end up at Lake Wabbi which is just gorgeous we all die doing this walk its so hot! The sand burns your feet even with flip flops and at one point you get to the top of a hill and its just pure sand dunes and desert sand everywhere its bright white sand too its absolutely stunning. Then you do maybe a 100 metre walk and you get to the top of a huge sand hill and the lake is at the bottom it is wow so we all run down the sand is so soft your whole leg goes in it and it burns!! And we do a quick strip and get in the lake!! Amazing! We're there for 90 mins so we stay in the lake the whole time as its so hot we cant bear to get out!
On the trip was another Canadian girl called Justine I absolutely loved her so positive the whole time very over the top American type Canadian she came out with the most outrageous comments the whole trip. At one point she actually comes out with the comment ' I don't know why they're going on about these so called crazy Dingos, theyre only dogs - I'm used to carrying bear spray everywhere I go at home!' this is actually no joke either as apparently in Alberta its common to find a bear in your back garden haha how scary but hilarious! She said it so funny!
I shared a tent with the geordies James and Georgia theyre from Bamburgh way and Georgia works in Sea Houses and James is sponsored in Sydney as a chef lucky guy. So nice to spend time with people who know the same bars and places as me! On the trip we were camping in a aboriginal campsite which is of course ran by aboriginals the main guy uncle Henry was scary as hell. Whistling was banned in camp as it scares off some magical bird that brings luck. Uncle was very set on this rule and I heard him threatening to kick a guy out who worked there as he had been doing it apparently! Poor guy was from leeds and he got such a scary telling off in front of a few of us backpackers oh dear.
The campsite had a club too which was awesome it was a shack you could plug iPods into and it was a dance floor. I wasn't sure we would dance on a campsite but we did.
So fraser was fun but we had car issues and one car broke down for whole day but it didn't ruin the trip as we all had so much fun!
When we got back that night to the hostel we partied hard and did karaoke and got drunk then bus to Noosa for me in the morning. Henry and the crew met me there. It was lovely although some people were a little negative about it but nevermind its not my fault it was windy!
So I had another day in Brisbane which was nice I sorted my stuff out did lunch with Mari n Nina had a fews drinks on the night with everyone got champagne and it was wicked.
Left for melbs and got back yesterday it is lovely to be back Brisbane is definitely not for me! Melbourne always has something new for me! Yesterday me James and Kate went to Brighton Beach Addie/Canada came too which was nice!
On the night we had a bbq at the botanical gardens all the irish girls came, Canada, James, Kate and Charl and Emer and Tommo so It was a lovely night!!
Just about to go for lunch now with some girls I used to work with and Thailand for me tomorrow yey!! So this is the end guys having a leaving Australia party tonight whoop!!
