After work on the Thursday which was Anzac Day I went home for a little nap after me and Liam spent the whole day watching Tom recreate every sport going in the Olympics. It was proper bank holiday so in 5 hours I got around 5 calls haha. I love days like that! I got home had a cuppa tea with a double decker - thanks Lauren it was amazing!! And then I decided I really needed to lie down so I had a nice short nap for around 3 hours... oops. I needed it I think! Then I was rudely awoken by Janine calling me. So after a nice chat with her I then started getting messages from Liam about going for a drink down southbank so I got myself up and ready and went to meet him, Shauna and Tom and two of their friends who they met on some Oz Experience a few months back? One of the girls was from Ashington so she was a proper Geordie!! I love to hear familiar accents!! We ended up drinking in Ludlow Bar which is where Janine works - and was working. So I got to see her at work! I had a nice cold cider then I checked in at Ludlow on their app which ended up with me being able to claim a nice 2 for 1 drink offer so I got some nice Lager. I love 2 for 1s. After these drinks we decided to go somewhere for happy hour as Southbank is a pricey place to drink so me and the boys headed off to Highlander a cheap bar I found on my cheap bar app. But we got there and it was shut.. So off we went to Randy Dragon instead as they are also a cheap and cheerful bar but that was also shut. Bloody Anzac Day. This country has no idea how to work bank holidays. So we decided to go to Flinders Backpackers as they do cheap drink too so we got there and they wouldnt let us in as they dont allow 'Thongs in' haha. Thongs are flip flops for those who arent sure about this. I would like to confirm me and Tom were not strutting round the streets of Melbourne only wearing thongs haha.
So we then decided to head up to near Hardware Lane as there is a good few bars there so off we went. Everywhere looked a bit dead, so we decided to go to Campari House but then when we went back to mine to get the Corporate Card we decided instead we should just drink Goon in mine so we went inside and had a few in there. I then decided to get ready there and then so left the boys drinking with my phone silly me and they abused my Facebook saying I was gutted as I had to leave Australia in a week as I had no money. Haha and so many people fell for it I had millions of messages. Funny thing is though If I had no money I have no idea how people think I can afford a flight home to the UK from Melbourne its only about $1000 per one way flight... and since wages are actually double here it would make no sense at all to go home due to lack of money as I would never make as much cash at home as I will here haha. Nevermind though I can confirm I will definitely be in Australia until the day my Visa expires! And then it will be New Zealand for me! So anyways I got ready had one more drink and off we went to Liams so him and Tom could get ready. We then headed back to Flinders Backpackers as we were meant to meet Brid there but she ended up not making it and as it was bank holiday there were no offers on I was not happy. So we then realised everywhere might not be open that night we had plans to go to Base for a wild Ladies night. So Liam called them and they were shutting at 11pm! Oh dear. I spoke to Brid and she suggested ringing the Elephant and Wheelbarrow. I called Revolver who did not answer so we figured that probably wouldnt be open either. Luckily Brid got lucky and the Elephant confirmed it was open until at least 1am so we headed straight there. We meet Ryan and Ush on the way and off we went! The Elephant is where the Neighbours nights are held which excites me muchly obviously as I love Dr Karl Kennedy. I actually love him so much I have a picture of him on my desk at the moment. And today when I came into work they have tided the whole office up and removed all the crap from peoples desk but guess what... my Dr Karl picture is still going strong!! Yey!
Anyways so we were in the Elephant and wheelbarrow. Shauna and her flatmate Sam arrived, and Brid and Tilly arrived and then loads of other people turned up Aimee, Kyle, Jess, Sarah, Sam etc so we had a lovely little crew kicking off. There was a band on who I think were quite good. We had lots of fun and for some reason we all kept dropping our drinks? Not sure why! We were in there for a good while and then we left and headed into another bar which name I cannot remember for the life of me but we had to pay $5 entry and we could dance in there so it was good. Everyone was a but drunken by this point. Aimee was wandering round looking confused and it turned out she had been falling asleep on a chair, being kicked out, walking straight back in, falling asleep on the chair, being kicked out, and so on haha bless her!! Only me Liam, Aimee, Brid, Seth and Tilly made it to this bar everyone else had went missing by this point or we had left them? I really dont know what happened to them. It was a good night though. Eventually we went home at around 4.30am Aimee and Liam fell asleep in the taxi, I almost did but luckily did not or I would have missed my address as apparently no taxi driver in Melbourne knows where anything is?! Even though I live right in the city now they still cant figure out where I live. This would not happen in Newcastle!
So i wake up the next morning (well like 3 hours later) and go to work a wee bit intoxicated still. I think the quality of my phone calls was probably amazing that day. I feel there is a chance I could win an award for best customer service ever provided by a backpacker. As everyone came in it was hillarious everyone looked really good and not ill and hungover at all. Haha. Not. Brid came in late. Kyle sent me a message at 10.45 saying he'd just woke up and was meant to be at work for 10 so had called in sick and he was covered in mud and he had no idea why. He actually used the sentance ' I feel like I've been raped' Kyle never really goes out on School nights as he cant handle hangovers bless him he is very dramatic and looks like Joey Essex which is why I am friends with him! We really were a sorry state. At work there was also a bake sale on which I just felt so happy about. I was there the minute it opened and got myself a white chocolate and raspberry muffin, it was amazing!! We had also came into work being told if we hit our targets we would be getting FREE NANDOS for dinner which had me so excited all day long but then we didnt make the target and it was taken away from us which in my state on Friday almost made me cry I really wanted a hot chicken burger and some spicy fries. We did however manage to make our target for a free Friday Drinks Run though, which is nice. I love to get free drinks especially when I am at work. On my luch break I ended up going to the VIC Markets to get myself a nice deli sandwich however my lunch was very late for some reason that day so when I went to the shop it was actually shut so I went in the markets to see what goodies I could get. The Vic Markets is actually exactly like the Grainger Market in Town, but maybe a little bit more upper class. Or it at least doesnt smell as bad anyways. Its a excellent market I do love a wander round in there. I ended up getting myself a Borak which is Turkish bread filled with random treats. I got spicy lamb inside mine and it was absolutely amazing. And it was ginormous and it was $3 which is 2 english pounds so it was a total bargain so I was very happy with my choice here. I didnt think it was very spicy but Shana had some and she said it nearly blew her mouth off so obviously despite the fact I no longer eat minimum of 2 hot curries per week anymore (like I did at home) I still havent lost my spice handler. It was beautiful anyways just what I needed.
I finally finished work at 5pm, us housemates were going to go out for a few but we decided we would just have a nice night in instead. We had burritos for tea and Charl made some fruit scones for us which tasted amazing but she ran out of self raising flour mid way so she also used a bit of plain flour which basically made them explode and they were HUGE. They all fell apart when she cut them in half but they were delicious depsite a few presentation issues. She also made fresh whipped cream for us to have with them and jam so we were well spoiled. It was amazing. I then had a kind of early night (in bed before 11.30pm) as I was going on the WineBus in the morning.
So yesterday I woke up got myself ready and went to meet Janine at St Pauls Cathedral, we were there for 9am the bus turned up at 9.15. All the winebuses in Melbourne turned up all at the same time too so we could see all the different weirdos on the other wine tours. Ours promised to be not snobby at all and it was also voted number one thing to do in Melbourne so our WineBus company is kicking everyone elses asses which I like! Our Driver finally turned up he was called Paul and he will such a nice man he was originally from down south London Town. He also said the word Hoouse which we loved. He was a canny fellow. He gave us a badge to prove we were on his winebus tour as it makes us special I think. Our wine trip was to the Yarra Valley and we were going to visit 4 vineyards. It took us around 1 hour to get into the Yarra Valley it is so beautiful there it was a gorgeous day too the sun was shining and its all autumny at the moment so it was just beautiful everywhere. The first Vineyard we went to was The Chandon Vineyard. This is owned by Moet & Chandon the very famous champagne company. They also own everyone in the world apparently YLS, Tag Heur, Hennessey Liquor and a million other rich brands you can think of. Its basically a Luxury Item Brand Label so they have a Lot of cash hanging around. We got some lovely samples in there. I had Rose Chandon which was amazing, It tasted nothing like what I drink In Asian Beer Cafe for $1.... Obviously it is essentially Champagne but obviously its not from Champagne so you cant call it that officially - I do still call it champers of course. Its exactly the same just not made in France. Janine had some Sparkling Red and it was absolutely lush! We debated about buying some but didnt as it was $28 a bottle however as the day went on we realised how cheap that was as the rest of the Vineyards were charging way more for standard wine. Dammit.
Janine also had slept in slightly so she actually hadnt had any breakfast luckily I had a cereal bar in my bag and had arrive for the Winebus prepared with some Arrowfoot biscuits (rich teas but a different shape) I got them as I thought they were called Arrrowfoots but it turns out they were called Arrowroot? How unfortunate. Either way they were rich teas and they were good although they did nothing to fill Janine up and she was smashed haha. In the Chandon Vineyard we got some cheese and bread and chutneys which was canny as I do love a freebie. We posed for some beautiful shots and then we moved on to the Oakridge Winery where we sampled 7 wines 3 Pinot Niors which were not the nicest wines at all. It turns out I hate Pinot Noir. Most of the wine in this sample session wasnt actually very nice but we were very tipsy by the end of it. We then got a light lunch - this was very light it was basically a starter which a huge glass of wine and we did get some bread luckily but everyone was hoping for more food afterwards and unfortunately none was on the way! Mine was lovely though I got Lamb with Lentils and it was very good indeed. All the food looked amazing to be honest but I definitely would have appreciated some mash with it. Such a shame! I did however get a massive pot of tea afterwards English Breakfast that tasted like English Breakfast. Mmm! Amazing.
We then headed off to a Cider and Winery. We got to sample some farmer ciders which were lush so we bought a pack of 4 to share with 2 apple and 2 pear inside we had one each afterward in the apple section. We also got to try some sparkling Cider which was amazing but it was like $22 for a 500ml bottle. It was made the same was as champers I think. The staff were very weird and quite rude but the cider and wine we tried was very nice here so I wasnt too unhappy. We made a few friends on this wine tour one of the girls was an Australian who was visiting from Brisbane with her friends who were Swedish and French. She was horrified to discover we would be farming soon!! In the Cider place them three womem were sitting in front of a huge cheese board which we figured was for everyone however when Janine went over it appeared they had bought it for them but they insisted we had some as it was clear thats why we went over haha. Soo funny! Bloody backpacker tramps! We did meet some nice Strayans on this trip. There was also a rude/strange lady from Oxford who kept getting in everyones way. She apparently visited Australia loads as she lived in Singapore. I think she was doing a lot of travelling. She was definitely over 48 so good for her!! But she was a massive weirdo. I think thats a standard southern thing though isnt it? Haha Jokes!
Our last vineyard of the day me and Janine by this point were very tipsy and also now getting into the extremely sleepy side of wine. It was a lush little place, when we went in it was set up like a Grandmas living room with loads of cool posters on the wall and the lyrics to 'Run Rabbit Run Rabbit Run Run Run' were on the bar. We tried about 9 wines in here I think, I think I tried some more that once too. There was some really nice wines in here I think. One of the men ordered a cheeseboard and insited we had some so we did that indeed it was amazing and there was feta stuffed olives which is a massive luxury food item for me so I was over the moon. While chatting to some Strayans one was like 'ooh you're a backpacker it must be awful living in a hostel' and I was like 'I live in Hardware Lane actually its lovely' and he was like 'what? You're a flashpacker you live somewhere nicer and way cooler than me and I've lived here forever' haha in his face!! Us backpackers really do have the best lives. After all these years of wondering what to do with my life I have now realised backpacking/travelling is my thing officially. I am an excellent traveller, and I think I am going to be an even better farmer. After the vineyard tour we went home with plans to go back out however that did not happen for me I ended up having a night in watching Geordie Shore drinking tea. Rock and Roll. Tommo also officially moved in yesterday too which was soo lovely!! It is so nice to have him back we missed him millions!! He is also completely black its obviously very hot in the Philipines! I defintely want to go there after hearing his tales it sounds amazing and the photos are out of this world!! It will be nice when we all manage to have a nice housemates tea together one night!!
So thats my latest update. Im at work at the moment - officially my last day working for the newspaper subscription line. Oh yes. I feel so happy to know after today I wont have to listen to miserable Strayans whinging on about their bloody newspaper not turning up or kicking off about articles in the paper or asking for the racing/lottery results. I cant wait to not have to speak to 95 year old men and woman with iPads who do not even know what the App Store is nevermind how to access their newspaper digitally. Feels so good. Although I'm not to sure how amazing my new job will be however its for 2 weeks 10 working days 9-5 so Im pretty sure I can handle it. Happy days indeed. No more 7am starts (until farm life) and no more 7pm finishes (until farm life) happy me today. 2 hours to go not that i'm counting down. Anways the only potential problem with my new role on a new floor tomorrow is that apparently there is no accrss to Facebook or Google up there which may mean no internet at all so no idea what I am going to do about that haha.
I think I am going to the AFL Aussie Rules today too which is very exciting, Hawthorne and North Melbourne are playing I have no idea what that means but I hope it means a lot of hot men in short shorts!! I am also hoping to have a Sunday roast again today!! I would really like some mince and dumplings I am hopefully going to be able to buy some sumpling mix from somewhere here so I can make that as I really want it now!!
Speak soon guys xxxxxxxxxx
