Today we actually had a sleep in. Yippee. Got going at around 9:30am. We should have arrived at Paihia around lunch but that did not happen. Firstly we went to 90 mile beach. This is the longest beach in the world. We stood on the beach and no matter what direction you looked you couldn't see the end. Then moving on we called at ancient Kauri kingdom. They had 45000 year old trees were carved into furniture, stairs and anything you could imagine. I got mum to take a pic of me in this beautifully carved chair because I knew that I couldn't afford it. ($20000). Mum sat in another chair that was ($55000). The lumber jacks cut these and they can carve them into anything as you can see. We fueled up at Taipa and would you bealieve it we got driveway service. We thought it was great. After this we went to doubtless bay. It was covered in shells. We went to mangonui. We went to the post office to find out that it was a little craft shop. It was soo cute. The staff were lovely and we chatted for ages. We finally got to the post office and posted some stuff home so it should be there in about 6 days. Mangonui was a little place by the seaside where you drove around the edge of the ocean and followed a stone wall and had little shops on the other side of the road. It was a little fishing village. Moving on we had a little detour to Kerikeri where we visited stones store and it was called Rewas village. Across the river there was a few little shops including a craft shop. We then went to our accommodation at Paihia and decided to back track to Haruru falls. We went through all this dirt road and windy tracks thinking that it was a shortcut only to find that we could have used the highway. Which met our dirt road at the falls. We saw a couple getting a photo taking and mum was freaking cause they were right on the edge of the waterfall. They were a really nice couple from Wellington. There is a big festival on this weekend to celebrate the signing of the treaty. So the navy is here and the big long wooden boats are here and ready to go out in the water. These boats only go out once a year. Best get to bed cause it's a big day tomorrow cause we decided to cross New Zealand to the other side to visit the Warawara forest where the largest kauri tree is. We will continue Dow to Auckland for the night.
