Wonderful start to the morning. We visited Castle cliff beach. The beach was so black it looked like the coal from a ship was washed up. It glittered like diamonds and was as soft as baby powder but if you walked on it with wet feet, it made it look like you had muddy feet. After lunch we headed for Hawera. Along the way we saw a tinny little beach way down in the distance. So off the beaten track we went once again to mana bay near Patea. the rough sea with the white foam on the black beach was a nice blend. The shore lines are very rugged and there are a lot of cliffs. It explains why we are climbing and climbing all day. After we arrived we did a little shopping before arriving at the Elvis memorial museum. It was hard to believe that one man could collect so much elvis stuff. Anything with a picture of elvis on it, he had it. Any record, dvd or video he also had it. He was a nice guy and loves a chat. Mum tried some kind of black shellfish and she has been sick ever since. We made it back to the motel before dark and I went to the restaurant. They prepare your meal and then serve you the meat raw on a volcanic rock. The rock cooks your meat right in front of your eyes. It's pretty cool to watch. Then I have to recommend the gooey chocolate cake and rich chocolate mousse. They are to die for. There won't be much to say tomorrow as we are traveling to Wellington.
