Our hotel was cozy, Outside our room were two goats that entertained us for a while when we had breakfast. We all took our time getting ready. The Hotel was on Overshot road, a little outside Queenstown than we expected. Eventually we headed into Town, Last time we were here we went up the Skyline Gondola in the night so didn't get to see the amazing views from the top.
This time we booked tickets for the Luge when we got to the top. The Luge is a little specialised cart that you ride down different routes back to Skyline building.
With our tickets booked we climbed into our pod and headed up the Gondola, as we climbed, the views got more and more amazing through the tree line.
We finally arrived at the top and headed out to the viewing deck. Wow, the panoramic views overlooking Queenstown were of postcard quality, a picturesque town next to a lake that is framed by snow-capped mountains. We stayed on this viewing deck a while taking in the belvedere.
Stevie's mum waited at the Skyline while the 3 of us took the chair lift up to the Luge. We booked two rides each. When we got to the top we had to do the scenic track first which got a use to the cart, it was a leisurely ride with gentle gradient, easy bends, tunnels and dips with a few photo opportunities along the way. We then finished at the start zone and got the chairlift again for our favorite ride, the advanced track because of the steeper gradient and is a more adventurous ride with the thrill of banked corners, tunnels, dippers and cuttings as described on their official site J
It was a lot of fun. We grabbed some lunch on top and watched the para-gliders jump of the top and peacefully circle and glide to the tiny town below.
After lunch we took the Gondola down, it surprised us that there was a walking track up to the Skyline, it was such a long steep walk. It was even more surprising that we was a couple doing it.
We checked out the lake and took some more photos. The views down here were as amazing as up from the Skyline.
Stevie's mum and sister wanted to check out the shopping scene. For some reason, it's always me that ends up buying the most clothes. Such girl. Well I was [leased with my purchases. Getting to like the 'Element' Brand.
We had some free time so decided to play mini golf. It was a fun 18 rounds that Stevie won, only by 1 point. Although she did deserve it after falling through a bush backwards.
We celebrated Stevie's mini victory in the Buffalo bar before heading to the Ice Bar. The Ice bar was cool, No pun intended.
The four of us had to put on artic coats and gloves before entering the bar. It was about -12° in there. It literally was a giant freezers. Inside were large ice sculptures, or random animals, people and buildings. The Tables, Chairs, Bar and Cups where all made of ice. It was hard to drink from the cups. As part of our package we got tokens for 2 cocktails each. The cocktails were sugary and sweet, I could imagine drinking them really quickly and getting smashed. Speaking about smashed. When we finished your cocktails we smashed our Ice cups together. - Just to make sure it was really ice.
Many photos and 30 minutes later, we left grabbed a KFC and headed back to the lodge.
