It was an early start, we were on the road again and heading down to Wellington. On route we stopped off at Mount Ngauruhoe which was Mount Doom in movie The Lord of the Rings. We finally reached Wellington by midday. It was a mission to park and when we did find somewhere it was so expensive. We totally forgot to visit WETA studios. Our ferry was not until 2.30am, So we had a lot of time to kill. We wandered around the city. It felt like a city with its high buildings and narrow streets, unlike Auckland.
Although we both prefered Auckland. We did our usual and visited the cinema and watched Rise of the Guardians. We walked along the water front and had an Indian. Finally we loaded the car onto the Ferry and went to sleep. It wasnt the best sleep we've had.
By early morning, we docked in Picton and continued our drive down to Christchurch. Stevie slept most of the way, but I enjoyed the coast and driving up and down the winding roads.
About 2.5 hours in I was falling asleep at the wheel, so I pulled up on the coast and we both slept for a couple hours.
By the afternoon we had arrived in Christchurch. I organized a place for us to stay. It is an ex old folks home. The home recently closed down and the landlady was turning it into a mini hostel. We managed to get a room with an en suite. Our landlady is a little Irish woman who loves a good chat, but she is very kind.
We dropped our stuff off and headed around town. The CBD area was empty and piles of rubble lined the streets. You could clearly see the affects of the Earthquake.
