Our first night in the van was surprisingly comfortable and it was up early again on the friday morning for the drive to Kiakora, this time we took advantage of the views and stopped to take lots of pics. We eventually made it to Kiakoura and kept driving along the coast to Ohau stream walkway and waterfall. This is where the baby seals come when the mummy seals are fishing....there were hudreds of them it was amazing, they were playing, and swimmming up and down the stream. When we left the stream and went to the edge of the road to take pictures of the view we saw the hundreds of mummy seals laying over the rocks....OMG.
Then it was back to Kiakoura to settle in the the camp site and head into town for a poke around and some lunch...it was a cute little town and we treated ourselves to a seafood platter witn crayfish...yum! Although not before sneaking up on some 'penguins' to get a closer shot and realising that there were just birds!
Back at the camp site we had 1/2 hour in the spa before throwing some burgers on the bbq and chilling out with a bottle of red and the voice.
We wake up the next morning and are excited about the the whale watching...we dress quickly and drive to the office, where we check in, watch the safety video and take some travel sickness tablets...by the time we get to the marina I can't contain my excitment and we board the boat..after an hour it becomes clear that will not be spotting any whales :( and we may also be throwing up if we don't get back to shore soon!!!!
As we leave Kiakoura we spot two hitchhikers and they are also heading to Christchurch so they jump in the back of the van and we all head back...it' been a fun weekend!
