It was Tom's Birthday yesterday so we hired a car and the four of us headed to Goat Island, apparently it is perfect for snorkeling. Stevie made a huge picnic for us all and a birday cake for Tom. Although it looked a bit of a mess it tasted amazing.
We got up early and headed off to pick up the car. Nervous that I havn't drove in 7 months, I managed to take the roads pretty well. After about an hour and half we arrived at another beach. Lost!! Luckily we finally managed to find the Island about 30 minutes later.
The weather was heading up and we settled in a nice spot on the beach. Prioritising I went straight to the snorkel hire and Stevie to the food. lol
The rest of the group didn't want to snorkel so I headed out alone. While the others hired Kayaks.
Stevie got a 2 man one so I could jump in and out of the water when I felt like.
Squeezing into my wetsuit I ventured in to the sea. the water was freezing, after taking in several gallons of water from my snorkel I finally settled and was experiencing the famous underwater world of goat island.
I saw Blue Maomao, Red Moki and Snappers. It was pretty impressive.
After a while I jumped in the kayak with Stevie and we headed out further to sea and around goat island.
hot and tired we headed back to the beach for Lunch and tucked into Stevie's great picnic.
While Stevie sunbathed I headed up and down the beach to do a bit of exploring.
Stevie and I decided to go out in the glass bottom kayak. It was pretty cool and eerie seeing all the seaweed beneath the kayak.
before heading back to the CBD we ventured to one more beach. The sand was beautiful there. Really soft and the beach went on for miles.
We had a little sunbath, drew pictures in the sand and messed around on the sand dunes.
It was a good day. heading back we got a long awaited KFC and headed to an English bar for a couple of beers to finish the day off.
Its a good life.....
