We woke up early as always on these kind of trips, jumped into the Car and headed to Marahau. This was the starting point for our trek. We parked up on the beach front, gold sand lay in front of us. Behind us were several huts, each offering different tour and boat taxi services around the Tasman. We located the tour company we had booked the night before. Boarded the boat and headed off to Medlands Beach the start point of our trek. En route we passed Split Apple rock. A large granite rock about 50m off the coast of the Tasman. It looks like an apply cut in half, hence the name, A few photos later we continued up the coast passing golden bays and canooists.
We finally approached Medlands beach, it was a beautiful beach, one you could stay on all day, but we had to keep moving as we had to make a start on our 4 hour walk. We ventured into the Abel Tasman. This is New Zealands smallest national park and is named after an explorer of the same name who sighted New Zealand in 1642.
The walk was one of the most Scenic places I have seen in New Zealand, the path hugged the coast, passing through native bush, each opening overlooking numerous golden beaches, each a worthy photo.
The walk was through forested, hilly terrain. frequently crossing mini rivers and bays.
We stopped at Torrent bay to pick up our lunch, which was dropped off earlier by our tour operator as there was a mix up in the morning with lunches.
Steve an I sat eating our lunch overlooking Torrent bay, wanting the fishermen and feeding the birds with crumps from our sandwiches.
From here we had 2 options, as the tide was out we could cut across the bay in 20minutes or walk around the bay which was around an hour. We were doing really well on time so deided to take the long route. I think most people opted for the short cut as we didnt really see anyone after this point.
We crossed a small swing bridge and continued through the national park arriving at Anchorage our final destination. We got there early so decided to paddle our tired feet in the cold, clear, blue sea and explore the coves.
The boat finally arrived and taxi'd us back to Marahau. Stevie and I slept pretty much most of the way back.
My Sister was also up here with her girlfriend and her sister doing the walk. So when we got back we arrange to meet up with them at Sandy bay for a few beers and dinner. There camper van was near by so we decided to stay late with them at their camp site, drinking and discussing the days events.
We headed back to our cabin and fell asleep pretty much straight away.
