The weather was nice this weekend so Stevie and Danielle organised a day trip to Cornwall Park. It was a bus ride out of the CBD. Before we headed to the park we headed to the farmers market down at Britomart. It was a small market selling food from around the world. By mid morning we arrived at the park. I'm sure it's the largest park in Auckland, it's definitely the highest! We saw the usual cows and sheeps. Groups of people were having BBQs, (I had food envy) we headed to the highest point of the park where a Obliesk is erected by John Logan Campbell to mark the achievements and character of the Maori people. The views from the Obliesk are amazing. It's probably the only point that can give you a complete 360° of auckland. On the way up we saw an old and huge burned out tree that made a natural teepee.
After we headed down and ate some lunch in the park. (really wish we had a BBQ) We decided to walk back to the CBD. Stopping in New Market on the way back for a coffee. The four of us ended up chatting for ages in Starbucks.
As Tom had never been to Dominion Park we cut through there to see the museum, gardens and lake. It was a nice atmosphere as the sun was setting. Tired from all the walking we grabbed a bottle of wine and headed home.
