It's my birthday...whoop whoop. I woke up all excited and opened all my cards...Kym and Kerry are clearly sick of me moaning about starting an exercise regime so they have bought me an exercise ball and some weights....no wonder the boot was so low on the drive down! And Mark continued with surprises not only did I get some great new clobber we are going Bungy jumping today....he really has come through! (Meanwhile Chris ran out for a 'toothbrush' and came back with a Maori necklace for me and Mark...bless him). With all the present and card opening done for the day it was time to start heading to the bunjy office to check in....my heart was pounding! Chris and the girls were very excited for the Bungy however me and Mark were taking it all in and panicking....we felt sick! We were doing the Nevis Bungy...the highest in Queenstown at 134m....eeekk!
When we got there it was straight to the loo for our last nervous wee's and then time to get strapped in the harness and a final weigh in....I feel sick just typing this! To get to the Bungy platform it was a short cable car ride across. Chris was the first to jump....he did it! Then it was Mark's turn....his legs we're shaking and he went white....the nerves were clearly taking over...and then when he was at the edge they took over completely and he couldn't jump...:( poor baby! Hopefully he could pull himself together and try again after the rest of us.
I was up next...my heart was pounding and I felt sick...they strapped me up, kissed my Bungy cord for luck and admired my leggings! I knew I had to jump to show Mark that it was fine but even I was unsure if I could do it....I had a mini dramatic moment and asked the guy a million questions just to waste time but in the end the countdown began and I knew it was now or never....I crouched as low as I could and jumped/fell, I could feel myself screaming but all I could hear was the wind blowing past my ears, it was amazing and euphoric. The only downer was that I couldn't pull the strap to reverse myself for the ride back up....never mind it was still the best birthday!
Kym and Kerry were the next to jump and they did it with style....arms stretched and the nerves tucked away! Mark got back to ledge next and we were all cheering him on! The guy started counting down 3,2,...."don't bother counting down I'm not jumping".....clearly Mark had freaked himself out and so didn't end up jumping....maybe another time!
We all headed back into town on the bus and went for a well deserved pint with our new friend Kelly that also jumped at the same time as us.....we were all on a high still, and Mark never regretted not jumping so that was good. We managed to persuade Kelly to stay an extra night in Queenstown and we all tarted ourselves up and hit the town....it was a great night, we went from bar to bar dancing and drinking...a great end to a great day!
