We finally had a lie in this morning, until 9am! It must have been the cocktails. Our mouths felt like ghandi's flip flop though, parched with furry teeth! Delicious.
We had breakfast on the terrace again and hid all of our things in our bags because we didn't want to take anything out with us only the go Pro because we were hiring snorkelling gear and didn't want to leave everything on the beach open for someone to nick it. I tied the key onto my bikini straps and off we trotted. We hired the equipment at £2 each for the day, Scott wasn't going to have the flippers but I twisted his arm because the current was strong yesterday and if we do spot turtles they are hard to keep up with without extra help.
We went to the conservation centre and saw the turtles again, a few had been released into the sea because they were old enough to be let free. You can give a donation and let on free but we only had about £5 on us for food for the day because we didn't want to carry loads. A turtle laid eggs on the otherside of the island last night so they were digging a hole in the egg shelter to protect them. Without they help and being protected the 150 eggs that a turtle lays at ONCE! Will only have 20% chance of survival and with their help they have 90% chance of surviving. Which is really good! Hopefully we will see some results snorkelling today.
Scott literally just got into the sea and right up by the shore there was a turtle! We followed it for ages and got some really good photos! They're eating the seweed and algae on the floor. Couldn't believe how shallow they came in though! It was so much fun!
We got out after a while and walked up the beach to another spot. I spotted another two turtles on the way, the one was absolutely massive, she had two fish swimming underneath her eating all the alagae off of her. It was awesome!! Because we quickly jumped in with out our flippers we weren't able to keep up with her so we retired and walked further up the beach to the north peak of the island. It's a lot quieter up here but the beach is a little dirtier, even though the water is incredible! the current was even stronger up here, good job we brought the flippers! After a while in the water and beginning to give up on finding turtles we managed to find one. They're lovely things! Their markings are incredible. She stayed around for a while before we decided to leave her because we were shattered from trying to keep up with her and fighting against the current.
We gave the snorkelling a little rest and walked around to the other side of the island to the 'Omback sunset' point. It's a swing out at sea which you can get some good photos on and obviously watch the sunset, we just wanted a photo on it though. My god, Scott put himself through some pain to go and find this swing! He was sore between his legs from the salt water and the netting in his shorts rubbing his legs, his voice was going all funny that at times I thought he was going to cry. He was in so much pain!
We did stop a few times to look at the absolutely incredible scenery. The beach on this side of the island was phenomenal, clear aqua blue water and white sand. Really peaceful and no boats or beach shacks spoiling the scenery. We had found the beauty of the island!
We finally found the swing, the tide was in so it was a swim out to the swing rather than a walk. After a few photos and a float on the swing we headed off again; only we thought that we could cut through the middle of the island back the side that we are staying but that wasn't to be so we had to walk right the way around to the other side. Aw Scott bless him was in so much pain! We couldn't have walked any slower.
The scenery was lovely though so it was a bonus that we were walking slow!
We eventually after about 45 minutes came to the side which we were staying and found the coco mart to sit outside and have our cheap noodle lunch. He was feeling a little better after some food and drying off.
We went back in the water to find some more fish and turtles, success! We found 2 or 3. They were loggerheads and hawksbill turtles, (we checked it out online what they look like) the hawksbill was really tame and we managed to get some selfies. You can get so close to them they just look at you and carry on munching on the seaweed or algae. Some of them are huge though, still not scary, just lovely! Their markings are beautiful.
After about an hour of swimming our mouths felt pruned from the salt water and the snorkel being in our mouth for so long, Scott had a painful walk back to the room, finally got there and he was literally on the verge of crying; I'm sure I seen tears in his eyes!
The shower was so good, the sea is really salty here so my hair was like straw. The best feeling is running clean water through it and you skin not feeling tight and dry from the salt sucking the hydration out of your skin!
We were shattered tonight from all the walking and swimming, a pizza was deserved! And it was top notch at 'restaurant egoiste' we were back in bed by 9.30pm even though we couldn't sleep much before 11.30pm.
