Breakfast was lovely this meowing sat out on the terrace, it's included in the price but you always usually get bread and jam. We had a few options but I opted for the banana pancake and Scott had the plain pancake with sugar and honey. So it was quite a nice surprise! It started us off right for our snorkelling trip.
We went to the tour desk and fitted our flippers and waited for the captain to pick us up on his rounds of the tour operators. There were about 15 of us on a fairly big sized boat, we had a glass bottom boat, a little worried the glass wasn't going to hold up though because it didn't look too secure with just silicon and rotting wood around it.
We had three stops, the first was up the beach from where we got on the boat, not much coral here. We were looking for turtles but we weren't so lucky to spot them up close, we seen one or two sleeping on the floor but it was about 15 metres deep. The ocean wall was incredible steep, and deep! There were a lot of divers about the place, apparently they are doing the cages coral here where they regrow the coral in hope they can plant it and help improve the coral bed but I don't think it's going to be very successful here because of how many boats there are and how close it is into shore were people go out swimming and stand on it.
The next stop was the Japanese ship wreck from WW2 it was a little creepy! There were a lot of different species of fish, the coral was okay but not as great as Malaysia. There's a lot of dead coral and it isn't very colourful. We managed to go down fairly close to the shipwreck only I got a little scared so soon came back up for air to the top. There are absolutely loads of angel fish, I love them! They're so fascinating! The shape and colours of them, only they aren't very cooperative as they tend to swim away when you try getting a photo of them.
Third stop was the toughest, the current was really strong! The coral was a little better. We were at Gilli Air's wall now and again there was coral but there weren't all the different types of coral and colourful ones as there were in Malaysia. We did go over some in the boat because we could see it through the glass bottom. I'm guessing the better coral is deeper down where it can't be destroyed as much so diving is needed for that. We did however, spot some volcanic rocks on the sea bed and the sand at Gili air is black so maybe when the volcano has erupted in the passed it has destroyed the coral when lava spills into the sea?
We seen some great fish again though! We have high expectations now though and we are in search of turtles, sharks and huge fish! Ooo we are such a pair of dare devils! Haha.
We stopped for lunch on Gili Air, we pulled up outside a really cool bamboo hut with chilled out areas you could look out to sea on. 'Neverland' the restaurant was called. It did look really expensive but turned out it wasn't so all good! The food was lovely aswell!
We got back around 3.30pm, absolutely shattered and dying to get the salt off of us, we couldn't wait for a shower! The salt water is so good to help you catch a tan, we have caught really good today! It all counts now as not long left to top the tan up!
After food this evening we stopped by Sama Sama for a drink and to listen to the live music. Two muppets absolutely slaughtered dancing and singing with Native American Indian hats on. They looked like something out of Pocahontas with them on! I said to Scott 'they're welsh. You can tell the way they're drinking and acting' Then I heard one speak and I was right, definitely swansea/Neath boys! We both recognised the one, he was Wales prop Craig Mitchell. Rubbing shoulders with the famous now haha! As soon as they found out we were welsh they were buying us drinks and we were all chatting. They were so funny, once the band stopped we had open mike then... Well the two guys had open mike and sang the national anthem and god knows what else but everyone was in stitches. We were so amused, it was nice to see some drunken happy time of five welsh boys being just... Welsh. We had a good evening! After a few cocktails we left them to it, plus they got chucked out because they were having too much fun. The Indonesians haven't got that fun light hearted feel about them. You can tell they weren't going to do any harm. Or at least we could tell because we knew they were too pissed to do anything bad. Haha!
