Three days have flown by in Kuta topping the tan up by the pool. We are taking these pool days for granted! There aren't many left of them so we had better start appreciating them!
We got our pick up this morning at 11am from the hotel, the hotel staff couldn't believe how cheap we had got our return bus and boat ticket for as they were selling it at £15 more expensive and that was at 'half price'!!
We thought we would be on a shuttle bus but we had a car to ourselves. The drive took about an hour to get up to Padang Bai ferry port. It felt a lot hotter up here, not sure if it was or if the days are just getting hotter. We are going into the summer months now I suppose!
We waited in the booking office until our boat was ready.
I don't know what we did different to the other 99% of tourists at the ferry port but we got on a really nice boat, it looked brand new; we got on our boat straight away were as the others had to wait out in the heat and watch the little boat be loaded with luggage before they could get on. You could tell that they were all getting a little annoyed, by now the music was blaring on our boat and we were sat in the sun drinking a Bintang beer. We have started to take in the little things now! The sea and the beaches was really nice where the boats were docked, it's just a shame the beach was spoilt by the boats.
By the time we eventually set off we were on our third beer. Oops!
The scenery was beautiful of Bali and it's volcanos in the Hazey distance. Our boat was uber fast! We had lost the little one that piled the people on. It took around an hour to get to the first stop, Gilli Trawanggan. The sea was clear, better than what we had seen so far in Bali. There were loads of little tourist boats and fishing boats. The boats spoil the scenery! Such a nuisance.
Once we got off, down the rickety ladder being held up against the moving boat by about 5 men we had to find our hotel. First impressions of the island was that it was nice, fairly quiet. No vehicles only horse and cart and we absolutely hated seeing it. The horses were in really bad condition, and they were tiny little things. It was not nice to see Mr. blobby get on the back of them with his big suitcase and smile as he went passed. Urgh, walk ya' lazy ass! Animal cruelty.
After a long walk up and down and asking numerous people because you can't always trust just one person as 'straight on' means all directions in Asia. Both bursting to go to the toilet from the drink on the boat so the pace had slowed us down quite a lot, we finally found it! It was a cute little place, only had 6 rooms, all with a hammock outside and bamboo seating. We got taken to our room! Booking had lied to us and told us that we had booked air conditioning however we hadn't and it cost extra. But they were all taken so fan it is! Usually this is alright in the evenings because the fan is right next to you so it's blasts you with air, it's just the thought of it now that we are sweating streams and boiling hot!
The room was basic but nice, we had an awesome bathroom! The shower was jungle theme, stone wall and a tree in the corner! Hehe. No hot water, but who needs that when it's 30 degrees outside? The cold water is rather welcoming!
We went out to get a bite to eat, 3pm and the booze has made us extremely tired. There were a few restaurants, all mostly empty and no waiter around to serve us so it was always on to the next place. We eventually sat down at one, the food wasn't great. Let's hope not everywhere is like this on the Gillis! There are plenty of diving companies about the place, most of them with swimming pools that look oh too inviting for you to just jump in and have a bathe! I think they're only used for scuba training though! Shame.
We did contemplate the PADI course but we decided against in the end, even though it's cheap here!
We chilled out at the guesthouse for the rest of the late afternoon before we went out for some grub in the evening. Everything seems to come to life in the night, there are people everywhere!
We went to the Sama Sama reggae bar for some food. The love music was really good. Afterwards we had a long walk up the stretch, we went the wrong way this afternoon. Most of the restaurants and bars were in the opposite way, lots of live acoustic music being played and the restaurants looked really nice and welcoming! We found a turtle conservation centre, they had three big pools with baby turtles in. Aw they were so adorable! All tiny and floating on top of the water whilst they slept! The facts board said that only 1 in a thousand turtles actually make it to adulthood, that's why they have the conservation site. There are so many different species of turtles they have in Indonesia, it's quite impressive!
