Feeling ruff this morning I even woke up before the alarm dying for a drink, mouth like Gandhi’s flip flop I ran down to the other side of the hotel to the water machine refilled two of our bottles and swigged some paracetamol with them - that’s what wine is doing to my head!
All I could taste was those bloody dumplings from the late night trip down street food lane. Ellie devoured her two pork buns, the way she was looking at them and munching on them last night you would swear she’s in love with them.
Found the videos all a little bit too funny from last night before we dragged ourselves out of bed and grabbed a load of trains to the airport, I felt very very sick on the train to the point where I was almost sick with nowhere to put it only in my rucksack so I just had to focus on something and keep swallowing my saliva so that I wasn’t sick everywhere. Finally the feeling sort of passed when we got to the airport but not for long...
changing the last of our currency to Indonesian rupees the feeling cane back again and there was only one way it was going to disappear, by running to the toilet and getting it all out. I only just made it and shut the door of the toilet before those god damn dumplings came back up which made me feel even more sick for the smell and taste of them. (Even writing about them is making me feel sick of the thought).
I felt a little better but still fragile, definetly wasn’t ready for food unlike hungry horis next to me, always hungry but only 3 ringgit left so she had to wait until we had food on the plane.
The flight was only three hours which was nice, the whole palarva the other side took longer than the flight. Security was a pain in the arse getting through and in the car getting out of the airport to ulu watu because of the traffic. We landed at 3.30, we got to the guesthouse (Uluwatu cahya guesthouse) just after 6.30pm. Dump those bags and get ourselves straight for some food, the altitude had made me feel better lol.
Never been down this end of the island before but I’m sure it’s gunna be beautiful! We stopped in Mana for dinner, absolutely gorgeous food, Ellie had chorizo tacos and chicken wings and I had soft shell crab salad with mango and avacado dip - taste buds had a frenzie!!
Over the next two days we are a lot of good food, I over indulged in fish and avacado and Ellie was more of a pork and beef addict (I swear she has a bottomless tummy lol). We sunbathed in Padang Padang beach which you had to climb down a cliff to which wasn’t too bad until you had to leave climb back up them sweaty and sandy. (That was not fun). We impressed ourselves with 3.5km run, considering google doesn’t show you the hills we did bloody well; and we didn’t get run over by a motorbike taking a sharp corner. My back was bloody aching afterwards though so I’ve over compensated by stretching at every possible spare time. The pool day was lovey too at blue point where I had another unforgettable beetroot and smoke salmon salad and the big fat monkey that stole a woman’s flip flop was great entertainment when she was running around the pool trying to retrieve it, haha.
We watched the sunset and loads of surfers catching the waves - dude; one night at single Finns bar and then onto ulu cliffhouse for some yummy 241 drinks and an attempt at dancing but the show was rubbish (even though it was clear he thought his music was awesome the way he was dancing to it).
Oh, I got scammed on the first day. That was delightful when I’m the evening I counted the money that I had exchanged that day. I realised that he had slipped 2 million rupees (£100 approx) away from the pile when I looked at Ellie for a split second. I had counted it twice in front of him, and I could remember that he put it all in a pile for me and he put it down under the table which I hadn’t thought about at the time but then realised what he had done. Absolutely livid and so angry and annoyed with myself because I’m always so careful. The next morning (second day) I went up to the shop and exchange bar (I videoed them without them knowing so I could try and get it translated to know if they were talking about it in Indonesian to one another) he rang his friend that served me and of course I caught them out when I said I had misplaced 2million here, they knew they couldn’t get away with it with me; so they gave me my money back all except 500,000 rupees (£25) I couldn’t get the rest from them as much as I said it was more than what the offered me back. It was better than nothing so I just have to try and forget about it.
We went next door enquiring about a boat to Lombok for Sunday and the guy in the shop translated as much as he could of the video for me as it wasn’t too clear but he could make out that they had taken my money and slipped it under the table - the f***ing b******s. So angry with myself.
There was a 12 hour period where I did in fact not like Bali but I learned to get over it a little once I got most of money back and had an avacado.
We hadn’t burnt sitting in the sun this time around thank god, only Ellie burnt her eyelids (they weren’t swollen from eyeliner like we thought). Maybe I shouldn’t have laughed as hard as I did when I woke up and seen that her eyelids were making her eyelashes disappear that she looked like Will Smith on Hitch movie when he has an allergic reaction (but that’s what good friends do, laugh and then help).
Shes lowered her trip count though to only about three times a day so that’s a bonus! But she’s still tipping stuff down herself and me! It’s pretty funny, she makes me giggle all the bloody time, so much that my stomach cramps from the sit up circuit we did.
We went to ulu watu temple on the last eve down there, to watch the sunset and much to our concern the monkeys! They were the most viscous we had seen, they were taking people’s hats and sunglasses off their heads and trying to eat them or would try and bite or scratch at you if you took it off them before giving them food, one guy just managed to snatch it off a monkey and the big fat thing ran after him with his fangs showing. Another girl had her one strap handing down from her bag so a monkey was climbing onto it and pulling on it to get the bag. They were insanely sneaky and as I said vicious! Ellie almost had her sunglasses pinched from her head when she was having a photo only she moved literally just in time!
There was a nice sunset tonight you could almost see right down to the horizon, nothing like Dubai’s big red ball of fire in the sky mind.
Ellie told me a porky pie, she said that the walk from our guesthouse to the temple was only 1km but then half way said it was 1.8km (one way) I did not have the right shoes in for this, in between my toes were rubbing from my flip flops. (I’ve had to give up hope on my haviannas, they were laid to rest today in the bin outside our room full of sweet nothings but a few strange smells and flies.)
On the way back we stopped for dinner at mikes cafe - delicious mahi mahi fish in garlic and lemon sauce and fresh baby prawns!! Yum-my! They had mr.bean showing on the tele, the one where he has a nye party and uses the twigs from the tree outside dipped in marmite to give to his guests haha. Nice to finally watch a little bit of British tele, it’s been a while!
We had to walk the road home in the pitch black (don’t worry mum there were others doing the same as us too with their phone light).
It’s so nice to see so many healthy dogs with collars on, finally! There are still plenty of dogs with tons of flees and no fur that look like the best thing that could possibly be for them is to be put down, but hey! That’s Asia.
Ell has five or twenty minutes with wet cotton pads on her eyes so that she could try and see tomorrow, the funniest site with her led on the bed not able to see trying to find the straw to her strawberry milkshake carton, I think I almost peed a little. Bless her!! :)
