What a strange day for the emotions! They’ve been yo-yo’ing all week but today was a very strange and empty day for the old heart and brain, I must say!
I’m not sure it’s really hit me yet that I’ve actually packed up all my belongings and left Dubai behind, the drink in the airport took the edge of things but it didn’t stop me from staring in to thin air thinking about ‘I don’t know what to think’ the entire time that I was there. Dubai is the place that’s been home for the last two years. Granted there’s been hell of a lot of lows but the highs have definitely made up for it! It’s true when they say Dubai will eat you up and spit you out; it’s been a bloody tuff two years but I’ve come out the end of it for the better (I think!) I think I can finally say that I’ve “grown” up, of course not without having a damn good time and being way too drunk and disorderly in a country that being drunk is illegal without a licence - mum will always approve of me not drinking and being sensible I’m sure. But what’s the fun in that!
The airport was more frustrating than usual, my Emirates ID and passport was flagged because I’ve cancelled my visa. You don’t realise how easy things are until you have to queue in the all passengers line for immigration. What a ball ache! But I got the “special fast lane” from the immigration queue controller man - what a gent! Maybe it was my resting b**** face?
I was last on the plane - result! No sitting around in the sardine can waiting for the dribs and drabs to get on the plane with their ‘hand luggage’ that’s clearly way to big for the overhead department but they continue to try and ram it in more than one section thinking that if they try more than one section the sizes may be different.
Bloody boiling on the plane - good job it’s only a 45 minute flight, poor Ellie will get in around 20 minutes after me to Muscat; only she’s been on a plane for 7 hours more than me!
One last look at the skyline (the way I’m talking anyone would think it’s a sentimental city and I’m leaving forever never to touch down on the Arabian sand pit again) well, maybe I am being a little sentimental about it all but one last look at the beautiful Big Ben (Burj Khalifa) won’t hurt!
It’s not a goodbye it’s a see you soon! :)
Peace out from the sweaty sardine tin can with wings!
