Even though I was awake at 5am this morning because my legs were ice cold from the air con above me, I had a fairly good night sleep! (Even though I woke up rocking a little, I think my body thinks it’s still on the boat).
Ellie was up not long after me and couldn’t sleep either so we decided to chuck our kit on and go for a walk, we needed to move or legs after hardly moving for four days.
It was still super quiet on the smelly island full of plastic rubbish at every turn. We carried on walking along the main road (piece of tarmac thrown down and let to set how ever shape it wants) and found ourselves the other side of the airport runway. So we decided to do a loop and walk right the way around. I didn’t tell her that google maps told us it was another 6.4km until we got back to our hostel, on top of the 1.5/2km that we ad already done :).
It was all pretty flat though, not sure any of the locals have ever seen foreigners walking before, they just stare in a blank confused look. Or ask you if you need a taxi, Ellie’s gotten to the point of just shouting, “ughhhh, no we have legs!” Haha! She will soon get fed up of saying that 10 times over and start ranting on in a squeaky high pitched voice whilst flapping her arms to me I’m sure of it! Haha.
We stopped almost at our hostel for a spot of breakfast, they use all local farmers and suppliers for their food to try and help out the locals which is cool. Nice food aswell! Avo and poached egg - my favourite!
Watched the world go by from the front of the restaurant, this place is full of dive centres and dive hostels and western divers. Where as Bali you can’t escape a moped being driven by a tourist with a surf board attached to the side of it here it’s full of divers with their kit sticking it the back of the bag.
We finally put an absolute load of washing in, apparently we get it back tonight but let’s just see about that promise... we are in Asia after all!
We chilled by the pool all afternoon, watched some guy having a dive lesson in the pool which was 4m deep in the one part. Ahh! I couldn’t help myself, I had to submerge more than once. I hate getting in a pool and not being able to put your head under, maybe it’s just me...
A few of the German guys that were on our boat came to stay at the hostel for tonight, there’s was apparently not very nice. (Trend setters are at it again...)
Last night after dinner we walked down the food street which had loads of little fresh fish stands which you could buy and they would gut and bbq it for you and eat it next there next to the port, you got rice and sautéed Asian vegetables included aswell. It was a bargain! So we went there tonight because aswel it was so damn cheap! £2.50 for a fairly sized red snapped or the same price for a big handful of kind prawns!
You could choose from so much; crab, humongous lobster, parrot fish, red snapper, puffed fish, all sorts of fish, cockles, big squid, small squid, octopus; and the list continues!
Absolutely delicious! And a cheeky free beer that we found in the room someone had left behind... thank you very much!
We got talking to some of the Germans that were staying at our place but went diving today because hey have their open water padi certificate and said that the sea life was amazing, they came so close to lids of manta rays that were absolutely massive and they weren’t even at manta point, the government are closing the area to large boats because there are too many people diving there which is stopping the rays from breeding so that’s why they are seeing rays all over the place now and not just in one location because they are searching for another place to live.
I went in and asked about the laundry at 8pm, and to my not so much of a surprise the laundry wasn’t back and he was pretty confused as to why it wasn’t and then told us it will be back tomorrow at 9am, we’ll unfortunately my friend that’s not good enough because that’s the time we will be leaving for the airport so he ran around in a panic and sorted that we would have it back at 7am so fingers crossed!
We didn’t want to be boring but the band had stopped playing at around 10pm and we were shattered - again, as usual.i fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow, I was in charge of the air con tonight so I set it just right and to go off a few hours later.
