Deparing Weipa for our final leg north on the East Coast. this area Cape York Peninsular was something both Tim and Melrose were looking forward to.
We drove from Weipa to Elliot Falls. The last 10km we went on the Telegraph Track which is well renown for its roughness, water crossings and is only for 4x4. this was our first real water crossing where we stopped and contemplared the risk of loosing the ute or and the boat. After watching a couple of other vehicles go through and a good luck Elisis buterfly (bright blue and only found in the rain forests) we gave it a go. all abit nervous but we made it through only a small leak through one of the back doors. the snorkle Tim had fitted in Tom price had done its job. we had water over the bonnet and think the boat may have been floating at some stage.
This was well worth it capming a free night next to a natural spring and one of ther few placed up here that you can swim safley without any croc being present.
When the kids were tucked in bed and we were walking around our camp we were luck enough to encounter a 1.2m green tree snake passing through. In watching it slither up a tree it was amazing to see how far thy can reach with their body not touching anything.
The next day we woke with a swim at Elliot Falls and Twin Falls then back through the river crossing this time feeling a little bit more confident being able to enjoy the water over the bonnet and a small leak.
Lunch at Fruitbat Falls another beaitiful falls to swim at and make the most of as there was no more swimming until we retured a week or so latter.
We then continued up the raod to cross the Jardine River by a barge with 4 of us sqeezing onto the boat we made it accross a bit easier than the semi-trailor did who was isn't the most popular customer of the barge workers.
We had booked in to stay at Alah Camp Grounds at Umajico for 7 nights and were pleasently surprised at our location and set up where we were given a position right on the beach.

Bec Snakes, crocs, driving through deep water... All too scary for me!! Sounds like a wonderful adventure though. Mum and Dad are out grey-nomadding now so maybe you'll cross paths somewhere. The blue bus is very distinctive so they'll spot you a mile off! Keep safe xx
